My Sports Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Lakewood

TLDR: The bartender added a 20% gratuity automatically to my bill and said it was because it was over $200. But I got a really sketchy impression from her. I give two stars because I do like their wings, but we don’t plan to come back.

Longer story: I’ve visited this place sporadically the past few years and always returned because we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting at the bar and I don’t feel good about the visit.

Towards the end of the night I saw one bartender show another bartender a receipt and say something like, “look, he didn’t notice and added more”. The way she said it just gave me a funny feeling. So I looked at my friend’s bill in front of me and I saw that there was 20% gratuity automatically added, plus some boxes to add an additional 20%, 22%, etc.

When I got my tab, I also had the 20% gratuity and I asked the bartender “oh so gratuities already added?” And she said “oh yeah I think the system adds it when your bill is over $200 or something”. But her tone was kind of flippant and she turned away really quickly. The interaction just felt off, and it left me feeling suspicious.

I didn’t see any signs about the 20% and they didn’t give us a heads up. We tip 20% normally, but I had the distinct feeling that maybe the bartenders were being sketchy. I should’ve had the gratuity removed, but I chose not to say anything because I didn’t want to be...

Well my sandwhich was pretty good, just was bummed about the time frame between our first drink and the 2nd round. Felt like we got forgotten, counted 15 other patrons get served drinks before we got our next round as the came in after the fact that our drink order was taken. Buzz was gone by the time we finally got our drinks so it was a crashing spiraling feeling and not the "yay I'm having a good time feeling". Was really disappointed, had high expectations for this visit and it just seemed to nose dive after our drinks were done. And i guess you are automatically charged a gratuity of 20% on top of your bill no matter the size of your group or what your ordering. No mention of this policy anywhere. I have no issue tipping, but i prefer like any normal person to decide the amount on that. But be put into a corner to be forced to put a specific amount separate...

I’ve been to this spot a couple of times and have enjoyed my visits, but recently I had an uncomfortable encounter with their security. I’ve never experienced this when going, but he made me and my party extremely uncomfortable. When entering he was being verbally abusive and then literally stood in front of our table watching us while we were eating. We were very confused about what was going on.
