I enrolled in the adult Learn to Play class last month and can't say enough good things about it. I originally tried a class at a rink closer to me, but even though it was aimed at beginners there were a lot of advanced players there. It ended up being pretty dangerous and I got concussed/injured because of it. Hockey is a physical sport and huge skill gaps can make things unsafe pretty quickly.

At Lakewood, they were super clear to only let beginners join the class and it created an awesome atmosphere. Plus it's totally free! Everyone gets a jersey to keep and you can borrow equipment if you don't have any. So you can literally show up with zero gear, money, or experience and learn the basics of hockey.

The instructors were amazing, and even in a big class they took time to explain everything, be encouraging, and answer any questions. I loved the mini shooting and skating clinics, and the scrimmage game during the final class was a ton of fun. I honestly wish the class was longer because I'd love to keep going.

There's a rookie league you can join after the class, which is great because a lot of rinks start a B/C league, which is really to advanced for anyone just getting going. I'd definitely do it if I lived closer, but unfortunately it's just a bit too far for me.

The facility itself is definitely not brand new, but I love it. It's got "vibes" as the kids say, and I think that's because everyone there has worked to create a place that's fun and encouraging to people of all skill levels. They really know what they're doing and they do it...

This place has extremely rude, condescending, inexperienced workers who do everything in their power to not do their jobs. I've actually watched the people responsible for cleaning walk around w brooms and dustpan without ever stopping to pick up the trash they walk by.

There is dried on vomit on one if the ballroom walls and it's been there for months. The bathroom sinks, counters, and toilets are never cleaned. It's very obvious when you use the facilities.

The locker rooms are Never clened are are very scarey. Boys and men are the only ones allowed to use the locker rooms. If a girl or woman wants to use them they are told no.

It is not ADA compliant. Anyone with a walker, wheelchair, or difficulty walking up stairs can't watch or use the walkways. They are too narrow and most of the seating areas are upstairs. There isn't seating downstairs and if you are in a wc you can't see over the walks around the rink.

The concession stand is very expensive and limited. Most people bring their own beverages and food because of this.

There are three rinks. Most games are in the evenings or on weekends.

Management doesn't do anything if there's a problem or complaint. This is why people leave and go to other ice skating rinks. I heard two families talking a couple days ago and they are planning on going to Paramount rink instead. Less expensive and...

Lakewood ice continues to raise prices without giving you anything in return. Showers don't drain, missing nozzles, unable to adjust temperatures, lockers unable to vent the steam. Not to mention the poor ice & board quality. Management & staff could care less about the facilities or complaints.

I've been playing at this rink even before it was bought by Ducks and became part of "The Rinks". It has gone downhill & at the same time continues to be more expensive every season. They just did a locker room remodel on a bunch of lockers, but again it was done very poorly & will be need to be remodeled again by the end of the year. No vents in the showers / lockers cause the entire room to steam up without anywhere for it to go.

More people need to speak out about this place. It is awful but 1 of the few options...
