First of all, the service was fantastic. I had spent all day trapsing around to breweries with my husband and friends, drinking water because I'm pregnant. At Cork & Cap, my husband and the couple we were with all ordered cocktails. I ordered water. Our waiter immediately asked if he could make me "something special" that was non alcoholic. Without even asking what, I said yes, and he brought me a "rosé mule" (aka, gingerbeer and cranberry juice - but in a mule cup!). It was thoughtful, delicious, and for the first time that day I felt like I wasn't left out of that part of the dining experience. Thank you and kudos to him.
On to the food. We ordered the edamame potstickers and hushpuppies to share. The hushpuppies were a nice light crispy texture, sweet, no onions. Perfection. They were accompanied by a Sriracha aioli that had just enough kick and complimented the sweetness of the cornmeal snack very well. The potstickers were also perfect. Not too tough, not soggy in any spots, and the filling was the ideal temperature and texture. My husband described them as "the best potstickers I've ever had." They also had a strong sauce game, a Thai chili sauce. Now entrées - I ordered the halibut special. Halibut topped with a lobster "cake" arrived with saffron risotto, can't remember the details of the beurre blanc, and seasonal veggies (whole carrots and asparagus). Again, perfectly cooked, everything. The risotto had so much flavor and so much creaminess. The lobster "cake" was just giant pieces of lump lobster meat lightly tossed in bread crumbs - both it and the halibut were super fresh and tender. And while I don't remember the specifics of the buerre blanc, it had a cirtusy element that balanced out everything really nicely. My husband and friend both got the meatloaf with the three cheese mac and were incredibly pleased. Meatloaf isn't my thing so I didn't taste it, but the Mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and deliciously balanced. Our fourth got the braised beef brisket with herbed gnocchi. Oh. My. Yum. So tender, so good! Evey bite was delectable. I don't think he spoke the while time he was eating except to generously offer us a taste lol. The gnocchi had so much flavor and the brisket was legit shredding at the lightest touch of the fork.
Of course I got dessert. Because I didn't drink beer all day and had to catch up in calorie intake somehow! Vanilla bean creme brulee with fresh berries and fruit compote drizzle. Again, they nailed it. Full disclosure, I love creme brulee. All about the balance here again though. The tartness of the drizzle and berries and the subtlety of the vanilla custard with the burnt sugar top just made for a delightful end to an already phenomenal meal and dining experience.
And the decor and atmosphere were great! Highly recommend if you love amazing food and professional, good service! Can't wait to be back in the area to...
Read moreThis restaurant is worth every bit of time and every dollar you spend here. My husband and I are foodies. We have been to Italy twice, Hawaii three times, Alaska, the whole East Coast from Maine to Florida, Texas, Arizona, we have eaten at a lot of places and actually judged our vacations by the food. We live here in Lancaster. For quite some time we have been looking for a restaurant that's not only upscale but actually has good food. Some restaurants here in Lancaster County are good...some very good ...but sometimes...we wanted great gourmet food and wonderful atmosphere. We have found one or the other but not both...until now. I can't say enough about this restaurant. It was fabulous. My husband had the beef short rib wellington which he said was better that Gordon Ramsey's...which we both have had. I had the Salmon which was absolutely fantastic! We both had delicious espresso martinis and we both had the crab and corn bisque which was superb. The waitress was wonderful, the food server was great and courteous. The atmosphere is very special and just relaxing enough. My only ",complaint" But in this case will NOT take away my 5 rating was the hostess. She never smiled, never even asked how many in our party...my husband just had to go up to her and tell her. The person who took us to our table was nice and courteous which saved the hostess. When we left...the hostess again said nothing. My husband told her to have a nice night because he's a nice person. Again...the other person DID tell us thank you. I would definitely have a training session with that hostess. But...everything else was so wonderful, I just won't deduct for the bad hostess. Great job, Cork and Cap...this was a fantastic experience. We will be back! We just went to this restaurant again last night. It was just as fabulous! This time we were greeted wonderfully at the door coming and going. We also had Mike as our waiter and he was great. Very pleasant and professional. This is now our favorite place to eat. I would give them a 10 if the score went that high. Whoever owns this business should be very proud. I would say this is the best restaurant in Lancaster and...
Read moreFor my first visit to the Cork & Cap I am extremely disappointed. From word of mouth many had some good reviews of this restaurant, but from my single experience I will not be returning. I had a party of 8. At least 1/2 the people disliked there meals. If you are a vegetarian or vegan I strongly recommend you do not dine here. More details below.
Let me start off by saying parking is limited. The parking lot was filled which required me to drop off my handicapped relatives at the door in the rain and park pretty far away.
There was a wedding reception going on which may have added to some of my issues, but I assume they have weddings frequently here.
Our waiter and his assistant were atrocious and un-attentive. My glass remained empty for most of the evening. Attempts in gaining there attention was meet by actively ignoring us. Questions about the menu were meet by short to no answers. To add to this the waiter continuously gave me the wrong dish which I needed to correct.
The vegan dish composition (which was requested weeks prior) was never communicated even when ordered. The first communication of what the dish contained was when the plate was place on the table. The dish it self was boring and lacking creativity in a chef. Also drenched in a lot of oil making it heavy and unappetizing.
My dish (not vegan) was cold and lacking in flavor. I expected a bit more pasta than what was provided. Overall the whole menu was heavily meat focused which was a bit overwhelming.
This is a beautiful restaurant and has a nice ambiance, but for the price you are paying the food was not appealing. There were a couple of other issues but not worth getting into...
