I first came here for coffee for vets. The first breakfast I had at the meeting was ok. Not seasoned and just ok. My kids were excited about me going there for the Vets meeting so we returned for dinner. There was a silent quarter auction going on but only a few people had arrived at this point. There were three servers and only three tables in the front dining room. The server seemed like she was so overworked and flustered. It took her 25 minutes to come introduce herself. A busser had given us drinks previous to her acknowledging us but instead of asking us what we had for drinks she charged me 3.99 for a water. Another 10 minutes passed and finally she took our order. Caution to families!!! This restaurant is not kid friendly. The kids meals range from kraft Mac and cheese for 10.50 to spaghetti for 13.50. The meals are small and include NOTHING but the plate. Kids drinks are 3.99. My daughter ordered fried chicken. $18.95. My son ordered spaghetti with meatballs and I ordered chicken parmigiana with stuff shells $17.95. I asked her to give me a grilled chicken instead of the fried patty. 45 minutes later my daughter received a fried chicken plate that had been sitting in the window for about 15 mins. 20 mins later my son received his spaghetti. The plate literally full of water. 15 mins I received my joke of a meal. My chicken was so burnt and hard it chipped my tooth. The servers focus was only for the event in the other room. She could not care less that my son told her he did not like his food she watched him cry that he was hungry with a huge plate of water and noodles in front of him. We packed up our food and just wanted to leave. No check. Another 15 minute wait standing at the register. I told her I was a veteran and showed her my id. She fumbled around for 5 minutes and then she runs my card before giving me the check….. 3.99 for water and argued with me that I was drinking 7up. She only gave me 3 bucks off my dinner and 3 bucks off my daughter chicken when the veterans discount is a percentage not an amount. I told her there were issues and they needed to be fixed. She handed me 4.00 out of her pocket for the drink. I paid taxes on a free water. My total for 1 adult and a 7 yo and a 9 yo was $62.67. 👀. I WILL never purchase food from this hole in the wall again. You will be out of business by next year guaranteed!!! Do not believe the hype! This place does not give a crap that you are a veteran!!! They do not care if you go home and barf!!! The whole time I sat watching the kitchen staff. Pouring sauces from a container directly on someone food. Playing around!! Refusing to give plates to the waitress. Touching the floor when dropping food and not washing hands. Save...
Read moreI've lived in the antelope valley since 94' and Crazy Otto's has always been a local favorite and I've never received such horrible service in all the years of coming here. My husband, my 3yr old son and I were seated quick enough which was great but the problems started after placing our orders. We sat drinking coffee and even though the food took a while we were patient enough, then I finally made eye contact with our waitress and she looked at me as though I was going to ask about the food and rolled her eyes at me as she walked over, I asked if we could have more coffee. She refilled our coffee and said the food would be coming soon. Fine.
Still another 15 mins later...and with a hungry toddler is an eternity btw, here comes the food and its Luke warm at best, my husband touched my son's pancake because he noticed the butter wasn't melting, yup, cold pancake. We ask the waitress to send it back because it was cold, the waitress very visibly annoyed took it back, at this point I've had it. They're annoyed?!? As we eat while waiting for my son's pancake my hashbrown potatoes are burnt, and I see our waitress whizzing by us and we're still waiting, my son is getting restless. I finally make eye contact again and ask the waitress if they can comp the $3pancake as it still hasn't come out yet and we had to send it back. She tells me "oh well it's just taking a lil bit cause u sent it back" I tell her I sent it back because it was cold!
As she takes the receipt and goes back to the kitchen, here finally comes the infamous cold pancake which is handed off by another waitress which my husband sees conversing with our waitress and he's sees them laugh and roll their eyes...hmm, wonder what they are taking about......smh. then she walks back over and places the plate the table and tells us to be careful because the plate was hot, the plate was hot because they warmed it up! They didn't even bother to make a new one in all that time. I was officially fed up, my husband ended up taking the receipt to the front cashier and she removed the pancake charge that was still there, no apologies from the waitress might I add so she didn't get a dime for tip, they tip I wanted to give her was on her demeanor and lack of manners. My family will never dine at this location again, and we will tell everyone we know how bad the service is. The AV is a small community word will get out about the service here, very disappointed we couldn't enjoy our family breakfast on a beautiful Sunday. If you go to Crazy Ottos go to the location off of K or the one in Acton. The food wasn't worth all this unnecessary grief, it's not what you do but...
Read moreCrazy Otto’s is a long established Lancaster haunt. I don’t prefer this location because this part of town is rather unsavory. However, the neighborhood is only matched by the unsavory offerings inside. My first breakfast I ordered the waffles. In the 1990s having strawberries and whipped cream was the actual dish- now you have to add $5 more. That takes this dish well over $20z The only breakfast item reasonably processed is the Two egg any style for just at $15. Both my girls ordered from the kids menu, plus 3 drinks- $75 with gratuity included since we were a table of 4 adults and 4 kids . I went again last week. This time I ordered a Denver omelette with added cheese.
The food is bland. There is no signature item- homemade jam, hash browns, pancakes- something so unique you can only get it there. Crazy Otto’s is famous for big portions. That’s it. The food lacks flavor or flair. I look over the menu thinking- I make better eggs and pancakes at home. Do they watch any professional cooks? Add vanilla, cinnamon to spice up pancakes. Throw in ricotta to scrambled eggs. Develop a signature seasoning for the hash browns. I love breakfast places. Every stand out place has a secret ingredient or flavor on the menu. For $20 a plate - I expect the food to be so delicious you want to lick the plate. The coffee is meant for the battled hardened - black, bold with a bitter finish. The grounds are not from any coffee producer that knows how to produce a balanced, smooth coffee.
The interior just needs a strong deep cleaning & refresh. There is an air of dingy, run down neglected decor. It’s an old building that shows her age against the haphazard way the space is utilized.
Yes have eaten lunch and even dinner during COVID. If you want a sandwich- there are 2 very delicious spots I’d recommend in Lancaster. Need a hamburger- there is another local spot I’d recommend- all worth every delicious dollar.
Price needs to be proportional to flavor . In this case there is not a single breakfast offering that is worth the price. I don’t need large portions- I need food that leaves a lingering, blissful memory that beckons me to return no matter the cost.
Update: We had a party over 6. That means an automatic 18% gratuity is added. They split our bills three ways and ADDED $40 TO EACH OF OUR BILLS!! They didn’t give me an itemized bill. When called I was told to just dispute it with my bank 😡 They turned...
