Highly disappointed with my visit last night and mind you I visit here very often and usually drop anywhere from $70-150 easily when we go. However last night was the 1st time experiencing this at shogun in lancaster. Went to go sit down at the hibachi tables and sat with my 6yr old niece and son so they could enjoy the lovely show they always put on for guests and my niece wanted their fried rice and my son wasn't having anything due to him not being able to really eat their food but still very much enjoys the show they put on. We were sat at a grill with 0 people there prior. Waitress comes over and orders out drinks and someone (staff) came over to her saying something and next thing she tells me is we cannot sit at the hibachi grill and we would need to go sit at the regular table and order our food. This was after I told her I wanted the filet mignon entrée w/ a extra side order of noodles and a extra side of steak, she asked my niece what she wanted and I told her she only wanted fried rice and my son was fine due to not eating their food and just ate an hour prior to us arriving there. That's when I something was said to her and we were told we couldn't sit there unless we order at least two entrées. Again we go there very often and I've never had this happen before. Usually it is myself my husband and my son but last night my husband didn't go along. After telling her never mind we will just leave, she looked at me dumb founded. I told her we came here for the experience and show and I felt w/ spending $75 just on my meal alone (drink, sushi, entree, extra noodle, extra steak) plus both kids got drinks and my niece w/ side order of rice which is $7 my bill would have been close to $100 which again is usually what I pay if not sometimes less when it's me and my husband both there ordering entrées. I told her we would just leave instead of being sat in the restaurant where there is no show displayed. I was in total shock. Unfortunately they now lost a long time customer who eats there often and I will continue to go back to Tokyo in Wyomissing where they even allow me to sit by myself at their hibachi grill with no issues. I always have loved shogun and quality of their food for the most part and have been going there for many years since they've opened and had my bday parties there etc. I feel after last night I will no longer be going back to this location due to the fact I had to "go sit at the booth/tables" because I only wanted 1 entrée but a bunch of other side foods that are cooked as well on the hibachi grill. Moral of the story:If you plan on going here and sitting at hibachi table make sure to have at least TWO people who are ordering actual hibachi entrées. Horrible experience...
Read moreUnfortunately I hate to one star a business but I gotta be honest, customer service and hospitality was laughable...not my worst dining experience but honestly top 5 worst still. Was seated in hibachi area, after ordering drinks they seemed curiously pushy for us to order. As soon as we ordered they came over and rudely said they have a reservation we have to move to the normal dining area. Mind you we are a party of 9...makes it weird and uncomfortable, mind you I have legit birthday balloons cause we planned for this 🤣😅 so we agree to relocate just because I already ordered my birthday drink and I didn't wanna be a Karen and argue.
So then there's a big ordeal with us moving...of course. Then we move in the middle of us ordering we didn't finish although the hostess(male) relocated us. Thinking we already did which was fishy kinda like they wanted to secure our big menu items over $30 per person not including drinks..knowing maybe if we didn't get the full experience we might change our minds and go with "basic" Japanese dishes" but we anticipated fresh food ready to eat. Well after switching in the middle of us ordering we wanted some time to decide what we wanted cause now they placed us beside the sushi bar and that looked good as well since we weren't gonna get fresh food now it's from the kitchen.
Well our waitress came over and asked if we were ready, I asked for a few minutes and (I WISH I WAS MAKING THIS UP!) SHE TURNS AWAY AND STORMS OFF CLEARLY SPEAKING RUDELY ABOUT US!?! Like miss we just relocated so YOUR restaurant didn't look incompetent, so then it only went downhill, clearly it became personal. She never once came to check for refills and we were there at least 30-45 minutes after getting our food orders in. Then we get our food everyone's rice and vegetables were cold. I'm honest so truthfully the flavor of my salmon was a 4/5 lobster tail 5/5 I have no reason to lie. But the lack of customer service was genuinely appalling and ruined my birthday dinner. Only cause I'm a good sport (I know this post makes it look otherwise believe me I don't even want to leave a review) but I want to hopefully help another family from spending a few hundred on a lackluster experience and hopefully they don't have to be out in awkward scenarios.
Genuinely upset cause I was here Sunday on impulse and loved it. But this experience I don't think I'll be back unfortunately I'd rather support a local shop...
Read moreMe & my boyfriend loved coming to Shogun for date nights. At one point we would go every other week, even though it was very out of the way for us. However, the last 2 times we have been here have been very disappointing & we will not be coming back. The first time after we paid for our food the waitress handed us back the little book with our receipts but never gave us back our card. She came back & I explained to her that I didn’t receive my card back & she takes it out of her apron pocket & hands it to me. Which I thought was a little odd because I didn’t see a need for it to be in her pocket. The second & last time we came was about 2 weeks ago. I ordered the Kani Salad as an appetizer & I ordered a Hibachi combination for myself & my boyfriend ordered the General Tso combination. We waited for our food for about 30-40 minutes. Our food comes & my boyfriend’s chicken is cold, not even warm. I could tell on his face that he wasn’t enjoying his food however, he didn’t want me to say anything. As far as my food, I noticed the portion size was way smaller than usual. I probably only had about 5 pieces of steak & shrimp & barely any vegetables. After checking in with us as we were eating, our waitress asked my boyfriend if he wanted a refill of his soda. We finished our food & received our check & still hadn’t gotten the refill. When she comes back to take our card that’s when she came with the refill to which only had a quarter of it drank because we were literally about to leave. She comes back with the little book & our receipts & tells us to have a great night. Then AGAIN I notice our card was not returned. We were super annoyed & just wanted to leave but instead we had to wait an additional 20 minutes for us to even see her to ask for the card where she then took it out of her apron pocket. I was pissed & this wasn’t even the same server. Unfortunately we will not be...
