Lunch on Friday was in Landrum, SC at the Hare and Hound. I met some older young ladies for lunch with my sister and two of her grandchildren. I met these ladies many years ago when my mother was still living, they were her friends, and they became really good friends with me. The Hare and Hound had been our next lunch destination, since our last luncheon date last year. It was a nice day with a nice breeze in the in the shade. There is outdoor seating, and a gentleman playing some really nice jazz on his guitar. We decided to eat inside, there is mostly booth seating and only one bathroom(only one person can use it). A problem with a restaurant of that size, and the number of people that dine there. Even with the restroom door locked some one was constantly knocking on the door the entire time it took me to use the restroom. Usually a locked door means someone is in there. The atmosphere was nice, but a little noisy. Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us periodically, and kept our drinks refilled. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, soups, salads, pub favorites and desserts to choose from. I decided to get the chicken quesadilla and lemonade to drink. The lemonade was tart pink lemonade, not really sweet after adding some Splenda was much better. We didn’t have a long wait for our food. The chicken quesadilla comes with three scoops one each of salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The quesadilla was only ok to me, one tortilla cut into four pieces. It had pieces of grilled chicken breast with some tender and tough pieces of chicken, onions and melted cheese. If you order this, don’t carry it out, it is not good cold or reheated it was only warm when it was served. For dessert I got the fried cheesecake, it too was only ok to me. I’m not exactly sure what the cheesecake mixture was wrapped in, but it was similar to a fried tortilla with caramel sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped topping a dusting of powdered sugar. The caramel sauce, the ice cream and cheesecake filling was good, but that fried wrap was tough to cut into and chew. A wasted $8.00 and some change for that dessert. The total of my bill for me and my twelve year old niece was $44.64, kind of expensive not to have enjoyed my meal. I did enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and would ask that you give The Hare and Hound a try. I would again, just to try some thing else...

We had a really weird experience at the Hare and Hound, disappointing because we were both really excited about dining there.

It was our Anniversary, so when we arrived to be added to the waiting list(20-25 minutes), I asked if they did anything special, they looked at me like I was from another planet. Ok, no big deal, just asking.

We waited to be seated at the first available inside or out, and perhaps it was just our perception, but it seemed like folks after us were seated before us. Again, no big deal, they may have called ahead, it just seemed like we waited longer than folks arriving after us.

We were finally seated at a table on the patio, right next to the sidewalk. Our table hadn't been cleaned off, so the hostess cleaned and wiped it down. They had seated a party of five at a table near the wall, putting a man on the end, right next to their bussing station. The waitresses couldn't get by, so they had to go between our table and others. The bussing station was finally moved out onto the verge across the sidewalk from us.

We waited roughly 20 minutes before our waitress addressed us. We watched other tables being waited on, and being brought trays of what looked like popcorn shortly after being seated. Not sure if that is a thing they do there, but we were never brought any or even offered any.

When our waitress finally came and got us drinks, she didn't write down our order. I asked for a Club Sandwich with potato salad, my wife got a cheeseburger. When the meals came out a while later, my sandwich came with Tater Tots. I told our waitress, and she said she would bring some out for me.

The food was quite good. The club was tasty and fresh and not overly stuffed or dry as some clubs can be, and my wife said her cheeseburger was the best she had in a while. When I was pretty much finished, the waitress showed up again and asked if I still wanted the potato salad, which of course by that time I was no longer interested. We had to ask for dessert menus, and got the Chocolate Bomb, which was amazing.

It was just a weird experience for us. We felt like we were invisible all night, and as good as the food was, the service and other issues just didn't make it as memorable as it...

September 30, 2023. Our party of 14 just had dinner here to celebrate my fathers birthday (we've been here before).Food was okay, nothing supper special. Some in our party think the food is amazing. So it's really your preference. After our server split up the bill, she came and gave checks. My part of the check was paid, and when she returned, we handed her her tip. We felt it was a decent tip seeing as we didn't run her to death at times we couldn't find her and we asked for 2 separate drinks at 2 different times didn't see her on the floor but it took her a long time to return with our drinks both times. Well, she did not like our tip and decided to get rude and say with an attitude that "Graditude was NOT included"'. Keep in mind that we handed her cash in cases her card tip is taxed. She then proceeded to go to the POS machine, which is beside our table and slam her book and complain about the tip she received. Now we did NOT pay for all 14 people, and there were two other cheeks paid for so 3 in total. They all stated they gave her at least 10% (I know more is best practice). This wasn't something we planned months in advance, and that's our fault for not doing so. There wasn't extra money for our blue-collar families to just give her. We all gave 10% more. As someone who worked in this industry for years, I have never approached a table after getting a tip with attitude. I did speak to the manager about this like I stated to her we won't be back and yes I understand it doesn't make a difference to her and the establishment because they are a busy restaurant but nevertheless a server shouldn't be rude like that. It's one thing to inform nicely while giving out the checks that gratitude was not added. But to wait till we gave her her cash tip and then be rude on top of it and slam your book and fuss...

Too bad you can’t offer stars for different parts of the experience. Let’s start with the very good- Kellye L, our server, was extremely nice, attentive, and capable. The complimentary popcorn as a starter was a nice touch. My wife had hoped for an appy size of the chicken livers, which Kellye said was possible despite not being on the menu. A generous portion, extremely tasty, but not inexpensive for a half size at $8. She also had the BLT, good flavor, but the bacon was thick and ended up being closer to jerky than crisp bacon. I was torn between the Fish and Chips (which was starred on the menu as a fav) and the Reuben. Kellye noted that they made their own dressing in house and steered me towards the Reuben. Perhaps it was the dressing, but the sandwich ended up being very salty, and at $11.29, even with a generous order of fries, I would go with the Fish and Chips instead next time. Finally, we were pleasantly surprised to see Rhubarb pie on the menu, so we got a slice to go. At $5.59, it nonetheless was straight to the trash at home- the rhubarb had not even been cooked. A disappointing ending, and brought the average for the whole visit down to 3 stars.

All of our fans really hyped up this place. The atmosphere was fine. We loved the popcorn while waiting for our food. Our waitress was Monika and she was lovely, so friendly and happy to answer our questions. She never let our drinks go empty. I was excited to see so many gluten-free menu options. They’re clearly labeled on the menu. The gluten-free bread was absolutely delicious. We were a little bit, disappointed by the onions in our food. They were a strange texture and not very flavorful. I’m allergic to mushrooms, but he said his mushrooms were the same way. All in all, we loved the atmosphere and we plan to give it another shot in case the onions was just a one off thing. I absolutely loved my green beans that were the side to my gluten-free patty melt. There was a long wait but we called ahead so we were already 20+ minutes into waiting technically so we only waited 22 minutes once we got there and we felt like that was very fair. Most of the shops around we’re closed, but we walked far down the street and there was one antique shop that was open and we enjoyed shopping there for 22 minutes and we walked back when we got our text.
