My wife and I have been visiting Sultan for several years. Our normal routine is to visit on Sunday and do the buffet. It has undergone two changes of management since we first started going. I wouldn't say that the quality was ever really bad, but lately there has been a great improvement.
The latest staff has really done a fine job at redecorating the facilities and expanding the menu. I have eaten there with people of Indian descent and they say that the cooking is authentic.
I have come to enjoy the many vegetable dishes that they make. In fact, several times I have been completely satisfied without sampling any of the meat dishes. I think I could be a vegetarian if my food was always this satisfying.
We find the staff to be very attentive and eager to please. They are quick to recommend new dishes that they are proud of and we have been happy to oblige. My wife prefers the less spicy food such as the korma or other yogurt based sauces, while I like the spicer type. There is always a good mixture of choices on the buffet. This last week I counted about 15 main dishes and of course the pani puri and appetizers. They usually have several deserts of which my favorite is gajar halwa which is a carrot pudding spiced and sweetened with honey.
I have been to many Indian restaurants across the Northeast and I would say the quality of the food here is one of the best, even compared to more pricey restaurants in New York City. You won't be...
Read moreOrdered takeout. Guy on the phone sounded like he was in a rush. Was very curt; not very friendly at all.
Asked for:
Chicken Curry Meat Samosas Sang Paneer Onion Bhajia 2x Masala Chai
The guy on the phone asked me "medium or spicy" when I asked for the curry. I replied "medium", as I had never been here before.
When it came time to pickup the food, there was no curry. Had to order and wait for it. Defeats the purpose of calling in but whatever. On top of that, they didn't have enough to make two masala chai, so we just got one.
As far as the food goes:
the curry is decent, not as good as what you can get in Philly; the meat samosas were good; the sang paneer (I'm told) was good; the onion bhajia was acceptable; and the masala chai was abysmal - it tasted like hot water with maybe a sprinkle of cardamom.
I'll try this place again for their buffet but their takeout service was terrible.
Edit: It should be...
Read moreI usually love the food but I have to write this review for the sake of future experiences by innocent customers. Today is Wednesday, April 26th, 2023. This happened around 3:53 pm. My father and I love this restaurant and went to eat this afternoon. Well it seemed as two employees had the doors locked and were sleeping on the booth seats, FEET UP, with blankets. When we knocked on the door, the guy put up his hand to let us know that they would open back up at 5pm. This is completely unprofessional as their hours stated that they were open during they time and they had the “Open” sign hanging on both sets of doors! Please change the professional standards at this restaurant, we’re very...
