Wow great food. Wonderful service. Friendly atmosphere. Our first time visiting and we were impressed. Had the Friday Fish Fry and it was terrific. Fish was cooked just right, the batter was light and tasty, the fries were as expected and the cole slaw very good - not a sweet creamy dressing but a vinegar based nicely seasoned delight. We also had the pork chops and they were moist and flavorful, as were the fries and green beans. Even had dessert, a lemon mascarpone cake that was unexpectedly delicious. We each ordered our own piece rather than sharing and we were glad we did. This is a former "shop bar" and while it is not fancy, it is comfortable and pleasant. They are even saving the planet one straw at a time using paper straws. Hurrah for them. We were waited on by the owner and his son who cared about the restaurant and its guest. By the way this is oldest family run restaurant in Lansing. Can't wait to...
Read moreI was not very impressed with this bar at all. After hearing so many good reviews about this place, I had very high hopes. We walked into the bar and waited 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. We ordered a drink from a older lady who couldn't have looked any more displeased to be serving us. The long island that I got was horrendous by the way...my friends and I finished our first drink and waited at least twenty minutes for our waitress to come by and ask us for another drink!! Keep in mind that she was serving other tables at this point....We finally decided to walk up to the bar for another drink and the first thing that this bartender does is stare at us coldly with no smile and say "the bar will be closing in thirty minutes." ARE YOU KIDDING ME PEOPLE?!? I'm coming to your establishment to spend money....at least PRETEND like you want me there. I will never be coming back...
Read moreThe restaurant was busier than expected at 5 Pm on a Tuesday. I brought my friend for a birthday celebration and she had never been there before. The menu offered lots of options that all sounded delicious! I chose smelt and my guest chose a hot turkey sandwich. Her potatoes looked real with lumps and they were piled high on her plate. She also had an ample portion of hot turkey with thick gravy. I enjoyed my 10 pieces of smelt. They were mostly big enough to get 2 bites out of each smelt. The tartar sauce seemed like straight Mayo because there were no pieces of pickles or relish. Cole slaw was my side. It is reportedly made in house daily. The portion was ample and the slaw was colorful. It was said to be a creamy base but I didn't find anything creamy. The Cole slaw was a bit disappointing. All in all, it was great food in a nice...
