I recently visited Pablo's Mexican Restaurant in Oldtown, having heard it touted as the best in the area. While I appreciate that different regions have their own culinary styles, Overall, my impression was that the flavors at Pablo's felt somewhat muted or adapted, leading to what I'd describe as a "whitey taco" experience – perhaps catering to a palate that prefers less bold, authentic Mexican flavors. I understand that regional variations exist, and perhaps this style of menudo is preferred by many in Lansing. However, for those accustomed to a different preparation, like the more sauce-and-large-meat-focused versions, Pablo's menudo might not hit the mark. The bland lingua was also a letdown. While I hear great things about their other offerings😉, these two dishes simply weren't for me.

I see why this small restaurant with fantastic decor always seems busy when I'm in Old Town. The chilaquiles I got were good and plentiful for $11. The huevos con chorizo my husband got were good though the chorizo wasn't as spicy as we were expecting and as plentiful as my plate was, his plate wasn't as generous with the huevos con chorizo. The low point was the hochata which tasted like it was made from a mix with artificial sweeteners which is all we could taste. Overall, I'd at least recommend it as a good Mexican restaurant that's open late.

Pablo's Old Town is a Mexican restaurant in Lansing's increasingly fashionable Old Town district. Simple furnishings and decor lend to an authentic Mexican feel, and the menu excels. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and full meal options and presentation and flavours amount to some the best Mexican I have had. A public car park across the road offers free parking at time of writing. Do not be fooled by the simple and cheerful shopfront. This restaurant is a serious authentic proposition.

Lansing actually has a decent food scene here, with many options to choose from. I was famished and needed something to eat, and after scouring restaurants in the area, this place came up. I liked that they served breakfast, lunch AND dinner, so off I went!

Parking here's decent, but if you want to park in the public lots to do stuff and walk around the area, you have to download some app to pay. Being that I was irrationally hungry, I didn't feel like downloading anything, and I actually got a better parking spot parking on the street and right in front of Pablo's.

Walking in, the place isn't huge, but there's enough room for up to a party of 4 to dine in. I grabbed a booth and reviewed the menu to see what offerings they had. They did start me off with chips and salsa, and the chips were great. Salsa was good, but could have used a little more pep to it.

I went with the Huervos Mexicana, which was absolutely fabulous. It's basically scrambled eggs with tons of good stuff in it, rice and refried beans. My only concern was I told my waitress to go easy on the Jalapenos, but I think she must have heard "no jalapenos" because I didn't notice any in my dish when she brought it out.

Food was excellent, and the refried beans were DELICIOUS. (some places have very bland refried beans. I don't know why this is a thing for me. Weird.) Prices here are spot on, and the whole thing cost me $10 plus tip. Server was fabulous and she was really super nice. Even for a random weekday morning, the place seems to be a busy spot, which is a good sign.

For a solid quick meal, check this place out. Legit Mexican food for an excellent price. You won't be...

This is a unique mexican restaurant in Old town. If you go while its busy, there isn't much room to stand so you will kinda be standing in the way waiting for a table. We waited for about 5 minutes on a busy weekend day for a table to open up. The owner was very friendly though and sat us when a table became available. The chips were great. The salsa that's on the table at first seemed a little watery, but it grew on us and about halfway through the chip basket we couldn't get enough of it. Our waitress seemed rather inattentive after initially taking our orders and bringing our drinks. She didn't come back to bring us more drinks, and actually the owner happened to see us looking around for our food after what seemed like a long time - and he grabbed it and brought it to us. So, somewhat inattentive waitress aside - the food: Absolutely amazing. We've been searching for authentic but also FLAVORFUL mexican food for a long time. Everyone raves about El Azteco but I've always thought their food was bland. Pablo's does not lack flavor - its unique in the way the foods compare to other places, but the taste is superior to everything else mexican I've had in a long time. We had a chimichanga and a wet burrito. We finished it all and were very very happy we'd given this restaurant a chance. We will definitely be back, though maybe when its a little bit less busy. : ) We'd have given 4 stars because of the waitress but the food is just too good to bring the rating down for...

Absolutely PATHETIC meal. Shouldn't even be given a 1 star, that's how dismal it was all the way around. Ordered delivery, a couple burritos, steak & chicken. Got mostly flour tortillas stuffed with rice. No cheese. No sour cream. No chips. Not even napkins. But we did get a Styrofoam container. $25 delivered. Called the mgr and expressed how horrible our 'burrito plate' was. She said to call the delivery company? Huh? They didn't cook the pathetic burrito. So I did. He said he had to get ' permission' for a discount or refund from Pablos mgr. 15 minutes later he calls back and says ' she said 'no go', they've never had a complaint on a delivery b4 and more or less take our business elsewhere. The customer service is worse than the burritos here. We will take our business elsewhere you can bank on that. Next time we want Mexican food we will give our $25 to a better establishment than this place. Even at Taco Hell we at least know what we're getting for our money. And they'll stand behind product. This Pablos mgr needs to take a remedial training course on proper customer service. Spare yourself the disappointment, don't get the burrito here and take your business elsewhere if you're in the mood for a decent Mexican meal. This over rated place needs to get a clue. 2...
