If you're anywhere near Laredo, do yourself a favor and make your way to Scratch Sandwich Company. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm, welcoming, and full of the delicious smell of freshly made bread and sizzling meats. This place doesn’t just serve sandwiches—they serve experiences stacked between slices of heaven. We tried several items off the menu and honestly, each one was a knockout. The ingredients were unbelievably fresh, and you could tell everything was made in-house with care. The bread? Perfectly baked with that slight crunch on the outside and soft, chewy center. The meats were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned—whether you're into brisket, pulled pork, or classic deli cuts, you’ll find something that hits the spot. One standout was their signature sandwich—the flavor combinations were bold but balanced, and the sauces (which I’m convinced are made by wizards) tied everything together flawlessly. Their creative use of toppings adds layers of flavor without overpowering the main ingredients. Oh, and don’t sleep on the sides—the fries were crispy and golden, and the house pickles were tangy with just the right kick. Service was quick, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they’re serving, and rightfully so. Overall, Scratch Sandwich Company is a gem in Laredo. It’s the kind of place you come back to again and again—and then tell everyone you know about. Whether you’re a sandwich fanatic or just hungry for something amazing, you’ll leave happy (and probably full for the rest of the day).

My wife and I just had brunch here and we had to laugh at how horrible our experience was. For starters our waiter was horrible. He was a nice person but he couldn't answer a single question we had without looking at his handheld and reading it so it took forever you get our meal ordered. When my wife asked if they could use clamato juice for her bloody Mary he had no clue what that was. Then she asked if it could be made dirty he had to bring the bartender out so she could explain what that meant and he spoke no English so we said nevermind make it normal. Then came the food and it was cold. Not even warm just cold. My Benedict had hardly any holindase sauce on it so I asked for extra and when I got it.... Again it was cold. I'm not sure what's happened here because it was a favorite of ours but I don't know if we will return now. The picture was taken after I put the egg on the other biscuit. Otherwise one half was dry with nothing on it.

Absolutely fair question. So, I will share. After driving over 1000 miles to be back in Laredo, there were only two places I wanted to go to in Laredo or actually Texas. HEB and Scratch. I finally got to go eat my favorite breakfast, and the restaurant looked neglected and was a bit uncomfortably cool. Benedict Arnold was still on the menu with the same side. The place was pretty empty, but the service was painfully slow. We had three adults and three small children. The food came out at such different times half the party was done before I got my order and my wife's order was even later than that. We had ordered the same thing. Both orders had cold biscuits and cold potato croquettes. There was very little hollandaise, and the jalapeño flavor was completely absent. The place was a neglected shell of what it used to be, and it used to be where we would take visiting family or friends for brunch. The photo is from when it was good.

This place used to serve great quality sandwiches (they’re still good but different is what I’m saying from before) although they arguably serve the best loaded fries called Crazy Scratch Fries. I've been here more than a handful of times and the waitstaff USED to be exceptional (now only one or two are nice). Used to have great ambiance but now it’s kind of strange. I don’t think they value their customers like they used to. I’ve been coming here for years, worked here at one point which was a very strange experience for me to say the least (I don’t want to delve into that), and let me say things are not the way it used to be. I remember back then we’d walk in the door and it was all smiles. Now, it’s like a dementor came by and swooped everyone’s happy attitudes. Oh and the kitchen never ceases to make mistakes, my dad had to drive to the store to pick up the order again when we ordered with Favor and it was just a big hassle. Management needs more training and to understand like at any establishment that “the customer is always right.” Also, their chicken is disgusting now, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thinks so. Weird consistency. Bring back the old chicken.

Update: since they’re constantly messing up their orders the manager told me to start taking my business elsewhere since “my standards are too high”. More like y’alls cooks need a how-to-prep-food 101 class.

Update: I’ve been kicked out because apparently I complain too much. Well let’s just say I wouldn’t complain if they got their...

My family of four and I walked in for dinner to spend my birthday there on 3/29/25. Scratch has always had a great and different atmosphere and this evening was no different. The food is ALWAYS delicious and especially their new dinner menu. Their staff was great in talking about it and suggesting a few items from it. We had When Pigs Fly, always a favorite, and their Ramen. Their ramen had such a great broth, the pork belly was perfect and their kimchi, well done, chef. What I really want to point out is their service. Our 3 year old was not having it and wanted to leave. She was obviously upset, but the server, the gentleman, walks over and speaks to her offering her a peanut butter cookie. The server could tell we need help and he was so nice and generous to us and her. He later came back and offered chocolate syrup. Both my girls were so happy. Later I asked for a house win and came back with something else which I wasn’t interested in. A few moments later THE CHEF walked over recommended this delicious Mexican win and asked to sample it. He asked how our service and food experience was which was amazing. Truly. Scratch Kitchen really provided service that we haven’t seen in so long. The Chef is wonderful and it was an honor and such a treat to have the Chef himself walk over and speak to us. What a treat. Thank you so much for everything it meant...
