Universal Snacks — Restaurant in Laredo

I’ve been going to Universal Snacks for years and years (except for during COVID). The owner was always great, very friendly and conversational.

Well, recently a younger guy has been working the counter. At first, I hadn’t noticed that I was being charged extra by this person. When I did start to notice, I decided to test him. Which I did. Then one visit last week, this person wasn’t there. And I ordered the exact same food and I was charged the normal amount and received the normal order. And it was good, as usual.

Today, I went to get the same order. And of course this guy charged me extra. So I asked him why and showed him the receipt from the previous week. So he tried to explain and said okay, and went to tell the lady in the kitchen something. Well, when I got home I realized what he had told the lady in the kitchen. My order was not the same as it always has been. It was clearly less then it always had been. So much so, that my wife didn’t finish it. She left half of it, because it was not the same taste. And before I could say anything, she said “let’s not go there any more.”

Where do I start my first time I went there I just ordered all fruit drinks. The second time i decided to go eat there to my surprise food was bad ordered a Mexican hotdog with all the fixings a corn in a cup and a large watermelon drink all was good except the hotdog it was awful it tasted like I was sitting there for quite awhile. Bad experience with the food ohh also they charge a fee for paying cash and paying with a card so be aware of that. And when I mentioned it to the OWNER his response was " everyone is doing why can't I" so in my point of view to eat nope I won't go there again to order...

The food is always expired. We’ve ordered in the past and in different occasions they have sold us candy and chips with expired dates. This last time we went we were sold an expired mexican soda. Since, I’ve had this bad experience more than 3 times now I don’t trust this place anymore with food that doesn’t show it’s expiration date for example corn and tostadas.
