I’m a huge fan of family run, friendly places like this. With a huge menu and well seasoned food, Rizo’s delivers the complete, affordable, comfortable and tasty diner-like experience!
I have adopted a strict dairy free/low sugar/no-processed-food diet focused on protein and fresh veggies with natural/unprocessed carbs. No problem here! Eggs perfectly over medium, a large seasoned hand-formed hamburger patty, fresh sautéed yellow squash and a big baked potato (off the dinner menu)! Breakfast/lunch/dinner was served!
Teuta aka Tutta did a fine job as our waitress, even fulfilling our requests off the dinner menu after checking with chef Rizo! The coffee was refilled multiple times so my energy level was high! No after meal nap needed! Thanks Tutte for your patience with us and your service!
Edgar, the fine son of father Rizo, showed us the wonderful family photos that adorn the restaurant. He also answered our numerous questions on how the place started, their plans, etc.
Brooke served other tables but still brought enthusiasm and a smile to the room.
Peter N and I had a relaxed, enjoyable meal with plenty of conversation and friendly service!...

I’ve had breakfast at the Egg Haven Café in St Petersburg. There I found the grits to be terrible and the fruit cup to cheaply contain only melon and a few grapes. Nevertheless, some items were very good and another branch of this local chain deserved a chance.
I do wish restaurant owners realize that the experience starts before entering. The exterior around the entrance is dirty and all the paint is flaking. The atmosphere of the interior is neat and tidy and bustling on this Sunday morning. The staff were helpful and efficient.
For our breakfast we had the “Ham Carved off the Bone” properly seared and delicious. It came with a couple of eggs and a good biscuit. It also came with a side of fruit. This time they added a couple pieces of pineapple. Maybe my last review had a little impact. We also had their nice Very Berry Homestyle Cinnamon French Toast—the thin kind, so it’s cooked all the way through. It was topped with lots of banana, strawberries and blueberries.
If you know what to get and what to avoid, Egg Haven Café can be very good. Just try to ignore...

Rizo’s is a nice restaurant. But calling it “cuisine” is a bit much. It’s more on par with a better diner, similar to “Acropol” around the corner.
The building has been several different restaurants over the years—last a breakfast diner. There’s not much to the atmosphere. Service was very good. Prices are quite reasonable.
I started with an appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes. There wasn’t a lot of flavor to the tomatoes or the accompanying sauce. For an entrée I had the Bourbon BBQ Chicken. It was a small-ish half chicken covered with their homemade sauce and it was OK. The accompanying mashed potatoes and mixed veggies of zucchini and carrots were all very good. It’s nice to get a composed, complete meal with a protein, starch and veg.
I might return to Rizo’s to try a few more items...
