Schooners Sports Pub — Restaurant in Largo

We live just around the block and walked over Wednesday night for a late dinner. We had the dog and thought we’d sit outside . I poked my head in and let the bartender (the only staff member i saw) if we should seat ourselves to which she said yes. 8 minutes later, the bartender came out and asked if we needed menus and took our drink order. We said yes, we needed menus It was just a few minutes and she brought out the menus and our two sodas. 17 minutes later, I got up and looked in the window to get the attention of the bartender, which is when she came back out and said, are you guys ordering food? I assumed since we needed a menu that it was understood we needed food She took the order and the food (One cheeseburger, one black and blue burger) Came out about 10 minutes later Nobody asked how we wanted the burger cooked even we be both shared that we wanted them Medium, but both burgers were definitely well done. There was literally no taste to them. The french fries weren’t cooked all the way and my partner actually said it just tasted like a Venus burger (which in case anybody doesn’t know, this place was called Venus for years. It didn’t really have the best food. It was just an inexpensive place that we only really frequented for breakfast and once in a while, lunch. it was inexpensive and the bacon and eggs and French toast were all very good. Typical diner food. ) There is no reason that the burger I had with cheese (They forgot the pickles, mayo, and onions, even though they were all supposed to be included with the exception of the mayo) Should have cost $15. I know that pub burgers often go for $15 but this was a five dollar burger. It had no taste just a bunch of lettuce. For the first time in my life, I put salt and pepper on a burger.

I can understand that restaurants are sometimes busy, as I worked in them for years and years as a server, but we quite literally watched everybody leave the bar while we were sitting there waiting for menus. There must’ve been a few groups because at least three groups of three or more people walked out while we were sitting there. The server could’ve been a little bit more attentive, considering we were the only people left. There was one customer who had picked up a sandwich to go and asked us how we like our food she was walking out. I just said it wasn’t the best burger and she said that this was her second time the last time she had a.turkey amd provolone sandwich and that it wasn’t very good but she wanted to gove it a second chance Even though I live within a three minute walk, I definitely won’t be back. I know that the owner put a good amount of money into updating the dining room (He is still the same owner from Venus and I’m not sure why he closed that restaurant and let all of his employees go only to open up a new restaurant six months later of course that’s neither here nor there it’s his business and he can do what he wants) but he definitely couldn’t do any updating with the very old bathrooms or the kitchen. It also looks like it’s one of the same cooks that used to be at Venus. All in all, if you’re looking for a place to have drinks and watch a game on your way back from the beach, then this is perfect. First time visiting Schooners and was I definitely impressed!! Very updated and clean establishment from wall to wall!! Nice amount of televisions that everyone seated can view clearly. All servers and staff were helpful with menu suggestions and hospitality!! Lauren our server was excellent!! Drinks were served quickly and also the food was out in amazing time!! I had the Schooners Smash burger (2 patties smashed and crispy with diced onions, pickle chips and house peppercorn sauce) w/seasoned french fries & also ordered the El Diablo burger (pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, fresh jalapeño, sweet onion straws and cholula mayonnaise) w/potato salad. Went in last night for some food. Grabbed a table and waitress got our drink order and brought them to us. Then completely forgot that we were there... she walked passed us 3 times and didn't even look at our table. Then I watched a couple that came in after us order food ( from a different server) and when I looked for my waitress she was behind the bar on her cell phone, eating. Which is a HEALTH DEPARTMENT VIOLATION. When I tried to pay my tab and tell her that I didn't appreciate coming in because we were hungry and watch her eat.... to that she started yelling and told me " Go be hungry somewhere else" totally embarrassed my wife with the waitress's yelling.
