Well, "Freddie's", a Midwestern fast-food chain has come to Las Cruces. Like "Steak and Shake" it advertises steakburgers which, if you question a butcher, is somewhat true in that ground beef is composed of trimmings from choice cuts of beef. That said, is Freddie's steakburgers any tastier than other fast-food burgers. No. I got a #5, a one patty steakburgers with onions, 2 pickle slices, and a dab of mustard and a plain hot dog with a soft drink. The patty was so flat that I thought I was eating a potato pancake. The point of this review is not to tout their burgers and hot dogs, but to speak of 2 things that are new to this area, to wit, thick and tasty shacks and cheese curds. The former is so thick that the boba size straws have a hard time drawing up the shake. You will note the word "concrete" in relation to sundaes. This is a Midwestern ice cream custard, like "Ted Drewes" frozen custard where the custard is so thick that you can take your serving container upside down without spillage. So when LC warms up this will be the place to go. Cheese curds another midwestern treat is well worth trying as opposed to fries. Cheese curds with fries and gravy is found in poutine a savory dish found all over Canada. So get a burger or hot dog if you must to get your empty calories, but get introduced to concretes and...
Read moreThis is my first time at Freddy's. I placed an order online; I did this and then drove 8 mins to the restaurant. My order was ready. I only saw one employee working (the person who served me). I had to briefly wait while they retrieved my shake from the fridge. They were very kind. The place looked great! The first issue I had, albeit small, was that I was given a messy shake. I understand that leaks and messes are bound to happen, but someone could have at least given me some napkins. I couldn't find any napkins near the register (the employee who helped me was gone by then). Thankfully, there were two in my bag that I managed to fish out and use. The peppermint oreo shake was awesome. I definitely would have ordered a larger size if I knew how small "regular" was. The double burger was okay. I asked for no onions, but they still put onions on; however, I easily pulled them off. Some areas of the patties weren't seasoned evenly, so on one occasion, I had a salty bite, and then my final bite was spicy. I got a large order of the shoestring fries, and they went straight into the can after I tasted a few. They tasted like extra-baked rehydratrd stale noodles. Again, the restaurant looked nice and clean, and the employee who helped me was great. I was not impressed...
Read moreWe placed an online order, got to the speaker, told them we had an online order, they told us okay pull up to the window. We get to the window then the worker tell us the order had just gone through 15 seconds ago, which makes no sense because if we told them our name at the speaker you would think they would tell us that there’s no order with that name if the order just went through as soon as we got to the window. But whatever. We didn’t mind waiting like they asked us to and told us to go to the front of the building and that someone will bring us our order to us once it was ready. We waited 15min at the front of the building like they asked till finally we decide to go inside to get it ourselves because no one ever came out. Mind you the cars from the drive through were getting their food immediately. We go inside and our food was just sitting on the counter. We tell them we’re waiting on our order and the worker just tells us “oh it’s right there sorry.” I understand things get busy and people are forgetful but if you know you’re going to forget then don’t make customers pull up to the front just to not give them...
