Be very careful if you choose to be a customer here. Check your bill carefully. If there is an overcharge error, do not pay until it is resolved.
We've waited in vain for resolution to a problem we reported just 5 minutes after we'd paid our bill. Mezcla staff reportedly could not solve the problem then. "It was too late." However, we were assured by both the Mezcla restaurant / bar manager as well as the Hotel Encanto floor manager that they would resolve it. Here are details, exactly as it happened.
We were guests of the hotel and had a drink at the bar before going out to dinner. My wife ordered a house chardonnay and I ordered a Johnnie Walker Black Label and soda. They said they had only Red and Blue Label. No Black Label. So I ordered the Blue.
We got the bill and I added a 5 dollar tip (there were 2 bartenders and no other customers - they needed a bit of love) and charged the bill to our room. Walking out I looked at my receipt what what we had been charged at wife's insistence. She has a 6th sense about rip offs. To my shock the bill was 58 bucks for 2 drinks! So with tip I was out 63 bucks for a house wine and a scotch.
We of course returned to question the bill and quickly discovered that the bartender had not made a mistake. The scotch was 50 bucks a shot in their computer system. We talked to the bar's night manager (we later learned he was actually the cook) who referred us to their day manager. The next morning (Saturday) we did talk to him during checkout from the hotel. He said the cause was a setup error in their brand new system that only the bookkeeper could resolve. It was Saturday and she would in the office on Monday.
To be clear, the bar manager acknowledged that this was an overcharge and promised he would personally see to it was taken care of. Then call us to confirm resolution.
Silly us, we took his word and the hotel floor manager's word. There has been no call. There has been no resolution.
We've learned our lesson.
We're going to report the overcharge to Visa of course. Also make it a point to avoid all the hotels and restaurants in the Heritage Hotel chain. Note that there are a lot of them in New Mexico. All proudly touted as exclusive resorts and fine hotels where their customers will be well treated in every respect.
Yes. This company had trained its employees very well to talk the talk. However they have not trained them on how to...
Read moreI recently had a rather disappointing dining experience that I’d like to share. I ordered a salad called the Chicharón, expecting something decent. However, when the waitress took my order, I couldn't help but notice her sarcastic tone throughout our conversation. When I asked her how long she had been working there, she replied, "Three years," with a hint of sarcasm that made me raise an eyebrow.
Curious about the dressings available beyond the blue cheese, I inquired about my options, only to have her pointedly suggest ranch. After a lengthy wait, I finally received my salad and was shocked by what had been delivered. I paid $13 for a dish that looked like an afterthought—essentially a chopped cabbage cut into quarters, accompanied by a lonely cherry there's a lot.tomato and just two tablespoons of ranch dressing on the side. To top it off, they had added a handful of pork rinds that looked like they came straight from a bag, rather than being a notable component of the dish.
On my receipt, they referred to this creation as a wedge salad, which I found amusing, considering it certainly didn’t meet my expectations for a salad. The menu described it as a Chicharón salad in beautiful cursive, which initially made me think, "Okay, this sounds decent." When I asked the waitress if the pork was fried, she confirmed with a half-hearted "Yes, it definitely is."
Honestly, I wouldn’t even categorize this as a salad; it felt more like a makeshift dish in a wannabe culinary setting. I couldn’t help but wonder, “What is this?” The overall experience left much to be desired, and I walked away questioning my life choices. To be frank, the front desk did mention they were going to refund me, so I suppose that’s a small silver lining in an otherwise frustrating experience.t. Read moreAfter reading the reviews we were not sure we wanted to eat at Mezcla but are certainly glad we did. I am writing this because I hate that such a wonderful place has been given such poor reviews. The food was delicious. We started with frozen margaritas which were well made and not overly strong. We had the Queso Fundido which was just the right amount of spicy and the cheese was not overly thick. Our entrees were the chipotle espresso filet and the blue cheese pesto linguine with chicken. The steak was perfectly cooked and melt in your mouth tender. The potato was crunchy and delicious. The pasta was tasty as well. The strawberry rhubarb cake was a dense cake with chunks of rhubarb which was fine but not something I would order again but my spouse enjoyed it. Our waitress, Desiree, was personable but very professional. We really appreciated her. The timing of the food was perfect. There was enough time between courses to enjoy them and converse. We spend 11/2 hours over dinner which is as it should be. Fine dining should not feel like fast food. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely. The restaurant and hotel are very charming. It is decorated so you feel like you are in a nice restaurant in Mexico City. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, this is the place to go. Some folks were dressed up and some in shorts. so do you. But give this...
