Last night after going to the park we decided to go to Shang Artisan Noodle next door but it was full when we got there. Because our kids were hungry, we decided to walk next door to this gem of a place! The food took almost 15 minutes to come out but that’s because there was a bigger party that came before our table of four. Wait staff was super kind! I give this a 5/5 because of the curry, big portions, and attentive wait staff.
Ordered:
Crispy Pork (5/5) Crispy on the outside yet TENDER on the inside! Loved the spicy yet sweet tang of the pepper dipping sauce that came with it.
Massaman Curry with Chicken (10/5!!!!!) OMG —— MUST TRY! I’ve been on the hunt for a good massaman (even red, in general) curry since we moved to Vegas! I’ve tried about four places and was disappointed each time so I stopped ordering it from new places. There’s a hole-in-the-wall restaurant called Green Tea in Stevens Point, WI with THE BEST massaman curry ever. I’m not a fan of that thick curry taste. I love that it’s a bit “runnier” with that bomb of coconut and peanuts. Anyway, Sawadee’s dish was basically an exact replica! The only difference is the color of the curry (theirs is more yellow). But wow, the flavor is there!! So dang good I’m so glad I made the choice to order this! I 1,000% recommend this dish. I have been dreaming of the day we fly back to WI so I can eat at Green Tea, and now I can just drive here to Sawadee’s to get it! So happy. I already want some more today lol.
Pad Thai with Chicken (3/5) While the flavor was good and tangy, it didn’t blow us away. My husband disliked the the noodle texture. They use thin noodles (like pho noodles) and not the slightly wider one. Because of this, the noodles felt stuck all together and a bit soggy. It was also a dry taste. Our 5 y/o loves noodles and said it was really good. The rating is based on the flavor, textures, and fact that I wouldn’t order this in the future. They do give a big portion!
Fried Rice with Chicken (3/5) This was okay but taste-wise it was more on the plain side. I’m used to more spices and flavor in fried rice so that’s what I’m reviewing this against. The kids loved it. I just wouldn’t order it again. Big...
Read moreWow...I've never given a one star but this restaurant on this night earned it. We originally decided to eat at Thai BBQ but they were closed for remodeling. I had previously eaten at a Sawadee in Salt Lake City, UT and had a good experience so why not give this location a try.
I was extremely disappointed. Food was of poor quality and service was slow. We ordered several appetizers: chicken satay, fried shrimp, egg rolls, and pork ribs. The best appetizer was anything fried. The chicken satay was underwhelming to say the least. Peanut sauce was sweet but bearable. The pork ribs were the ends of the ribs with cartilage and marinated in a salty mixture. This appetizer was $12.99. Not worth the money at all. The wonton soup was okay and came out in a timely fashion. For entrees, we ordered chicken pad Thai and my nephew ordered orange chicken. The pad Thai was presented without the chicken and was not flavorful. They took the pad Thai back and added chicken. By this point I was losing my appetite from the poor quality of the food and didn't finish the pad Thai when it was sent back to me was ordered. The "crown jewel" was the orange chicken. My nephew was hungry and ate most of our leftovers before his entree came out. We stayed and waited for him to finish but were thoroughly dissatisfied with the quality of the food for the price paid. No attempts were made by management to address the issue after bringing our concerns to...
Read moreTried this today via one of the many Instagram foodies in town and it did not disappoint. We really do try as many Thai places as we can afford and make time for and really loved the authenticity, ambiance, menu selection, and hospitality. They have an incredibly proced lunch combo meal and specials. Today we had the best Khao Soi and Som Tum we've ever had a restaurant. Some tum combo that came with sticky rice and baked chicken was amazing. Fresh. Great flavors, some heat and not too sweet either. As good as what I was eating in Thailand last month. The Khao Soi was huge, tasted fantastic and came with all the fixings I love: challots, mustard greens, fried noodles on top. Our kids loved the pad Thai, it was amazing.
Oh got to throw in as well, the satay was great. Peanut sauce was a great consistency. Thai iced tea. Now this is important. Need a big enough serving. Check. Needs to be just right amount of sweet without being overwhelming. Check.
We'll definitely be trying to check this one out again....
