Service was top tier. Our server took great care of us. There wasn't space inside for our party size so thankfully the weather was perfect to sit on their outside patio. Until someone at the table next to us lit a joint, we truly enjoyed the outdoor space. My brother, however, warned me that the food was just meh and I find I will have to agree with him. The protein/meats were good. My problem was with the sides. I got the rice pilaf and green beans and I feel like it was false advertisement. The rice pilaf was just yellow rice. The green beans were canned, although the menu pic showed fresh. Both of them lacked flare or seasoning. I noticed the person we ate with ate all of his catfish but barely touched his sides (potatoes au gratin and corn) as well.

Now my husband got the mashed potatoes and brussels. He raved about them. I grabbed a little of both to take home so hoping when I eat them for lunch tomorrow I'm as impressed with those as he was. Maybe they are the show stoppers?!?

So the final factor is always whether or not it would return and I will say yes, there were several cocktails on the menu I really want to try. And it is conveniently located. I will try what our server recommended, the wings, and just...

Just ate at Jay birds for the first time. I Understand they are a start up restaurant. But just a few suggestions. A bread basket in the beginning would be nice or a soup/salad option to go with your meal. To be completely honest the chicken has zero flavor. I was very surprised, being a black owned chicken restaurant the lack of seasoning on the meat. The rotisserie chicken couldn’t have been rotisserie it was cold on the inside, they had to have heated it in the microwave. Food portion sizes could have been a little bigger, I left feeling hungry. I don’t know what that shrimp/chicken stir fry was. It wasn’t fresh and again no flavor. I wanted to go back there and season the food myself. Tell the cook to stop being scary with the seasoning, ESPECIALLY with the chicken. Also, I came for the drinks, no bar open. One of the things I can say though is they have excellent customer service. The waitress was very polite and attentive. I believe this can be a really nice restaurant, they just need to...

I recently visited a restaurant while in Michigan, hoping to try different dining options since I'm from Georgia. The server was friendly, but the food was just average. I ordered macaroni and cheese, only to find out it was no longer available and had been replaced by canned creamed corn. The fish was acceptable but tasted a bit stale.

When our bill arrived, it totaled $79.00, but we didn’t receive an itemized breakdown. My husband had shrimp as an appetizer and ten small wings, while I had catfish with two sides. After asking for an itemized bill, I noticed a service charge of $12.63, which turned out to be a 20% gratuity. My husband had already left a $9.00 tip without knowing this, so he adjusted it to an even $80.00 by leaving an additional $1.50.

Overall, I was disappointed by the unexpected gratuity charge and the lack of transparency. I won’t be returning before leaving Michigan. Also, the music choice wasn’t enjoyable for everyone—trap music with explicit lyrics isn’t ideal for a...

Jay Birds Bar & Grille is hands down one of the best spots in Lathrup Village. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is classy but still super welcoming—perfect for a laid-back night out or a quick bite with friends. The food is on point. I tried the blackened salmon sliders and was blown away—fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve. The cocktail bar is another highlight. Drinks are well-crafted, not watered down like you find at some places. The happy hour deals are legit—great prices and quality pours. I came in during the Saturday afternoon special and left feeling like I got way more than I paid for. The staff here really knows how to take care of you. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and quick without hovering. The patio is a nice bonus too—perfect when the weather's good. This place isn’t just a bar, it’s a whole experience. Whether you’re local or just passing through, you won’t regret stopping in. I’ll definitely be back.

Me: Um, can I get another beer? One that's cold? I saw the bartender sit that one on the mat, almost 10 minutes ago. Server 5 minutes later back with same bottle of beer - "I put it in the freezer for a bit to get it cold". Me: Can I just have a new one, right from the cooler? Server: No, my manager said not to waste it. Would you like some ice? Me: No - can I have a chilled glass? Server: Ummm, let me see if we can do that - a "chilled" glass (literally did air quotes). Me: It's a thing, I promise. Server returns with chilled glass for my warm beer, to accompany the Cornish Hen baby wings, which were a substitute for the Pepper Steak, they were out of, that " wasn't supposed to be on the menu" in the first. The Lobster Bisque fries would have been ok if they contained lobster and wasn't just Soup and Cheese Curds. Soft drinks were limited to cola, because "we outta Sprite". I did not leave a tip for obvious reasons, but did confirm the Service Charges were 18% gratuity.
