I am a local and have loved going to captain Larry’s for many years I’ve told many people how good the food was and I don’t mind paying a little more for quality. Tonight I was set for some good seafood (flounder, shrimp oysters clam strips, scallops deviled crab) with my grandson so I called Captain Larry’s I ordered a flounder & shrimp platter for him, a large seafood platter for myself and asked if I could substitute another piece for the deviled crab. He said sure no problem. When I arrived no surprise 25 bucks for a large seafood platter and a fish n shrimp, my order was ready the guy running the register asked my number and confirmed my order asking if I had two flounder n shrimp and a seafood I told him I had one flounder n shrimp and a large seafood platter. He said he had it but they didn’t take the devil crab off but he would give me an extra piece of fish. He gave me a piece of fish and asked if I’d like a lemonade. When I got home we got our plates out and I was so disappointed that I called the restaurant and asked If a large seafood platter came with oysters scallops and clam strips. I was told by the young lady that answered the phone it does if you ask for them. I said so I have to ask for each item that I want to have on a large seafood platter if I don’t say it you don’t put it on the platter. She said yes sir that’s right. I said that’s good to know, thank you and she told me to have a good night and hung up. The foods good and I got enough to eat including lots of hush puppies funny I didn’t even ask for them but they came on the platter. I guess things change and if I get a taste for seafood I’ll call Teal’s or Shiloh to go or ride on towards Holden where a seafood platter comes with deviled crab, oysters, scallops, clam strips, fish and shrimp, at least 4 or 5...

I'm 54 yrs old now and I've been going here since I was a teen. Seen the place progress through three to four different owners. Always have loved the food. Never had something I didn't like. Overall the wait staff is ok. I understand that these days students topically compromise that staff and occasionally one may not be as good as the others. This visit I had to ask more than once for my refills and never got the half refill or extra hushpuppies at the end. The restaurant appeared to be low on shrimp or oysters. The waitress said when I ordered that she could double my shrimp/oysters on my deluxe plate. What came out was way less than half the regular amount. To hide that reduced amount they offered a "third meat" so I was offered catfish. Catfish never has been part of an oyster/shrimp deluxe combo. My mom ordered boiled shrimp that suspiciously had a pile of lettuce under it for "decoration" to hide a reduced amount of shrimp. Restaurant is run by a father/son owner. I fear the son owner isn't managing his inventory like his father did. I used to get excited about going there but now I don't. The son owner's portions are not like those of his father's. I appreciate all their efforts to hold down prices but when I do rarely go out for special occasions I could care less about cost when quality is such as there's is. What matters to me is that everyone gets enough. Now, the value that once was is no more. I truly fear the son owner is slowly ruining everything his father owner ever accomplished. I honestly would never recommend this place now because it would be embarrassing for...
Read moreService was phenomenal. Brittany took care of us and set the bar high! We did not have to ask for anything, not even an extra napkin! I could tell she was skilled in serving and had menu knowledge like no other. The rating of 3 stars is due to poor management. While visiting, I couldn't help but overhear a problem at the table next to mine. Brittany went above and beyond! However, management was needed in order to please the ladies behind us... The manager on duty, Amber (I did get her name for this review) made it her business to walk by and make it be known she was present, but almost refused to help Brittany in seeing her guest were pleased. This server literally had to walk away and on the 3rd attempt of pleading with the manager to come through, the owner finally stepped in to assist and bring the lady a more sufficient serving size. As an entrepreneur and restaurant owner myself, I would never have anyone like amber representing my business. No matter the personal dislike for a server, she should always make sure the guest have a pleasant experience. Shout out to Brittany for not only holding her composure, but for making sure her guest had a pleasant experience even if it took getting the owner involved. I feel bad that she has to work under someone with such poor skills; someone who almost seemed to intimidate her and her guest. Brittany if you see this and would like a better experience with management or even a job managing, I'd be more than pleased to have someone like you on my team! The food was good, but your passion for the service industry made it...
