While the food was great, and our server was extremely nice, we had a very bad experience upon entering the restaurant (this is the PJ's on Route 1 in Lawrenceville - on Monday, May 2nd). I was treating my mother to a birthday breakfast and we walk in and see the host, a man in say his mid 50's, salt & pepper hair. We asked for a table for two for breakfast and I asked my mother where she'd like to sit, and she said maybe the counter or a booth would be nice. This man walked away from us with 2 menus, and then we say to him that we'd like a booth in the front, and he replies in a VERY nasty, obnoxious tone, "would you please come with me please", and I say, "we'd like a booth over here" and he cuts me off, and says "would you please come with me" again in a VERY nasty tone. My mom and I both look at each other like, what the hell is happening here, why is this guy being SO incredibly rude to us for no reason, we were just asking for a booth near the window which was available. So we follow him to this booth, he basically throws the menus on the table, and this booth is RIGHT NEXT to the men's bathroom. And he just walks away, no "enjoy your breakfast", absolutely nothing. Might I mention no greeting at all when we walked INTO the restaurant. I was not going to sit there and allow this man to treat us this way, so I went back up to him, looked him in the eye and said, "excuse me, sir, what was that?" and he replied, "you wanted a booth", and I replied back "there was absolutely no reason for your attitude and to treat us that way, we are customers at your establishment and I do not appreciate your extremely rude tone when I'm trying to treat my mother to a nice birthday breakfast". He barely said a word to me, and no apology whatsoever. I walked back to my mom, we left the table and this server near the bar area saw us about to leave and was nice enough to ask us if we wanted to have a booth by the window (where I originally wanted to sit). I get that people have off days, but my god, I don't know what this guy's deal was, we watched him greet everyone else that walked in that door after our lovely meeting with him. Very odd behavior and hope it doesn't continue. If that is the owner, well, you might want to change your attitude. I think I will go to the Princeton location from now on. I will also be leaving this...
Read moreI'm trying...Lord knows I am trying! Being from Southern Jersey (i.e. near Cherry Hill), I am spoiled with my easy access to many good diners. My office is in Princeton, so I was a regular for a couple years at The Princetonian diner...not the best, not the worst. I usually get eggs for lunch, so my demand for "chef expertise" is not high. But The Princetonian shut their doors last year and I've been on the hunt for a replacement ever since. Today, I found PJs Pancake house in Princeton. Well, let me tell you...the hunt continues. Once I got passed the overwhelming smell of bleach (I think), I ordered the Jersey Omelet (pork roll, onions and cheese), rye toast and their "mashed browned potatoes". They brought a carafe of water to the table. I could not tell if the nasty on the carafe was on the inside or outside, but it had to go. "No big deal" I thought, "I'm here to get something to eat." I ordered a coke to go with my meal (more on that later). Plate came out and I tried the potatoes as I've never had "Mashed browned potatoes" and was psyched to try. Cold! sent them back. The omelet was ok, but the onions were the main ingredient. They must have been 3" inch long slivers and completely overwhelmed the omelet. Sometimes less is more. The mashed brown potatoes were ok, but I was a bit turned off after having had the cold version. The rye toast was good, very good. The waitress was good.
Back to that coke...it was $4!!! For a 12 ounce! C'mon man. I am all for a Restautant being profitable but $4 for 12 ounces?! $25 was my total.
To be fair, the online reviews for their pancakes are pretty good. Ultimately, it's my fault for thinking a Pancake house would be good at making eggs.
Probably not a place I'll be back to...unless I change my usual to some buttermilk pancakes, hold the coke!
PS: based on the age of the customers while I was there, maybe a "calmer" choice of music could...
