Happy Dragon — Restaurant in Lawrence

Went there for the first time Wednesday for lunch. Having just moved back to the Indianapolis area I was looking for a casual chinese restaurant close to me. Seeing the reviews here I decided to give it a try. Now I will say that I love oriental cousine. I have been to many different places over the years. So I'm pretty sure I understand how most Chinese restaurants do things. Walking in my fiance and I immediately noticed that you order at a counter. I was looking forward to sitting down having a server. Ok, no biggie. I knew what I wanted and proceeded to order. First thing weird. I wanted a water with lemon. They don't have water unless you buy a bottled water. Really? No water? Then second, most places that I've been too offer a free cup or bowl of soup or salad when you order a meal. I actually ordered the dinner size versus the lunch. No complementary soup or salad. So we got 2 egg rolls. So for 2 dinners. 2 egg rolls, bottled water, we spent almost $25.00. I know that's not a lot, but considering its Chinese and not even a Buffett that's a little more than expected. Once at a table, we realised that we needed to get our own plastic ware. Again was expecting a nicer place. The food arrived and to say it was ok is fairly accurate. Nothing to to make me go, let's go here again. I will look for a...

I eat here regularly....at least twice a month, sometimes three. It has been my experience that if you are kind they will return the gesture. If you are pushy or rude they will respond in like. That being said- the food is phenomenal. I love Asian food! I have tried many places. But I continue to return here because their food is ALWAYS FRESH, always hot and full of flavor. The main cashier is usually on the phone (as another reviewer mentioned) but I roll with it and because of this, she is always very kind to me. I am kind of a picky eater, so I have a specific/modified order. They messed it up a couple times but with respect I request they fix it and they did...quickly. I tipped them for fixing it and ever since then, not only do they remember my order, they get it PERFECT. I always tip...even if just a 1$ or two. And I never have an issue. My only recommendation is...if your order requires modifications, don't call it in. Go in and order. I do this and rarely wait more than 10 minutes. There's other stores nearby to entertain if you don't want to sit and wait. With other take-out Asian restaurants in the are....this is the ONLY place I will go....

After the way they took my order over the phone, hung up on me in mid-order& very rude, I did not want to like their food. But my hushband and I loved it!! The best egg rolls we've probably ever had. Ginger/Soy sauce for the Dumplings is amazing, but the they could have been crisper for my taste. The flavor of the filling was vey good. Fried Rice(CHX & Beef) had very good flavor, alot of onion. So despite the first impression over the phone, we will be back. I will just know what to expect...
