Every place has bad nights. It happens. Sometimes that is forgivable. Let’s not kid ourselves this place serves mostly sandwiches so we were not looking for fine dining. We chose it because they had some of our family’s favorite appetizers. Don’t go here. The service was very poor. Serve French fries? Maybe provide ketchup or if not don’t require a guest to ask the various servers that asked if we needed anything to repeatedly make the same request over 20 minutes. This is how it worked, a server( not our waitress) delivered food and asked if we needed anything else we would ask for ketchup. Then eyes would roll there eyes and then almost like magic they would say “” sure”” and we would never see her or our waitress again. If there were ketchup bottles on some of the tables I would have just relocated that bottle to our table without any need from the staff. We asked four different servers for ketchup we did finally get it, not the biggest issue but still annoying. It is not the worse food I have ever ate, but none of it was good. My son enjoyed the very crispy, but in my experience overly cooked French fries. That’s it the only positive from our experience. It is hard enough to afford dining out when the kids order off the kids menu. I feel we should not limit them so that they have varied palate and when older can enjoy foods that give a wider variety of choices. However if they find something on the kids meal that sounds appetizing and it comes tasting less than the microwave version it is hard both to encourage them to order off the kids menu makIng dining out feasible.and to try new things. Sometimes my children can be dramatic. So when they complained about the bad food I tasted their butter milk fried chicken strips. I have never tasted something so unappealing in all my life. It was cooked well but oh my good nothing, like air, texture without a flavor at all. Well with the poor service. Not once refilling our drinks. The average or better almost average “sandwich” and the complete disregard of how anything edible on what they serve our kids.
Lastly, this admittedly is not necessarily fault of the restaurant; the staff or even the management. However it is necessary to denote the vary large amount of Highschool age children that were definitely effecting the environment of the area. There was a table of twenty in the back and as the time elongated more like age people congregate it definitely added to both noise level and ridiculous conversation topic that eventually became difficult to be explain to our young children.
If you are childless that enjoy food that comes from a microwave and is over cooked. Enjoy spending time in a loud small space with bathrooms that are for one person. Don’t care that they ask you for a minimum of 18% tip even though I have never tipped less then 20% and still don’t refill you drinks, even though they are trained to ask but don’t follow though. Try it just so you know who the worst restaurant...
Read moreAfter a long day hiking at Mt. Scott in Lawton, OK, I and a group of friends were searching for a sit-down restaurant open after 9 p.m. We came upon the Backporch Drafthouse via an internet search and decided to give it a try.
First Impression:
The prices were not cheap and not expensive. They were accommodating when we called and asked to hold a table of four. When we arrived, the place wasn't very busy. However, there is a second location in Lawton. Be aware of the second location if you're having friends meet you. The staff is friendly and the restaurant was clean.
Appetizers:
We ordered the "Crispy Fried Pickles" and the "So Gooda Mac & Cheese Bites". You would expect the fried pickles (sliced pickle rounds deep fried in batter and served with ranch dressing). They were hot and fresh. The Mac & Cheese bites were AMAZING! If you like mozzarella cheese sticks, this is a way better alternative. They came out hot and fresh, the smoked gouda was just the right amount, and they were also served with ranch dressing. Meals:
I ordered the T-BAM and it was pretty good. This is a safe choice if you want a club-style sandwich with a few extra options. The fries were decent as well. Everything was served at the proper temperature.
Not so good:
A friend ordered a house salad with the vinaigrette dressing. I tried a bit of it and it wasn't what I would expect of a vinaigrette. It was savory and not sweet. It had a unique taste, but it would be something I would dip a poor-tasting piece of steak into. I would stick with the traditional dressings. We had to ask the server for refills (but we were also dehydrated from the hike). We all drank soda or water and did not sample alcoholic beverages.
Overall:
I would each here again. However, know which location you're at. If you don't want a huge crowd, this is probably your best best. This is pub/sports bar food with an elevated approach. The restaurant is clean. The food is served fresh (at this location). The service was good. The servers...
Read more*edit: the restaurant has responded with a request for me to leave my information so they can reach out. This isnt helpful as there is no way to safely leave contact info on a google review. Back Porch: is there an email I can have to discuss the issues further with management?
I usually enjoy back porch & have tried to ignore the flaws (the queso is killer & usually the food is good) but this was the third time I’ve found a small, thick, curly hair in my food. Once was in 2019 (that was a longer ringlet type hair, I won’t forget it because I unfortunately found it by biting into it), again with a small thick curl in 2022 and again this evening. I also found a piece of parchment paper melted in with the cheese on my burger this evening. I can’t ignore these mistakes anymore, it was disgusting each time, the first two times it was dealt with in house & I took it as an honest mistake. Tonight was a pickup order & it couldn’t be corrected. We’ve been here many times and this hair-in-food incident has happened three times now, is it a mistake or are employees messing with food? 😅 two entrees and chips & queso for over $40 I shouldn’t be finding paper and suspected facial or pubic hair in food. Additionally, the hospitality has gone downhill in the years we’ve been. Many employees have come across more snarky and unwelcoming, I recall a very different experience a...
