We have tried this shop multiple times. While the treats offered are ok, the person working there is rude and has no customer service skills. My son if 4 and within the last year was diagnosed with celiac and cannot eat gluten. Finding places around us that have treats that a normal 4 year old likes is difficult. Telling him there is a place that has only treats he can eat is the best day ever to him. Every single time we have come in the person working has been rude. Telling a 4 year old who is just excited for food he can eat to "not touch the glass" or correcting children's behavior that is not yours is uncalled for. Leaving things out in reach of customers and then complaining when they touch it seems ridiculous.
As a mom of 2 kids with food allergies and one of them being on the spectrum, I don't ever expect anyone to be completely understanding but it seems juvenile to have nothing but complaints the entire time someone is in your store spending their money. Being kind and keeping your mouth shut is free.
Don't recommend this place to anyone with children and commenting on the amount of stuff someone does or does not order is weird behavior for a...
Read moreThey had a LOT of vegan options so I went with a to try list. The nutter butter vegan cookies are wonderful! Staff are very friendly and super helpful. I didn't really care for the oatmeal cookies, they were dry but not in a good, crunchy way. Cinnamon roll was just gross - 3 bites and into the trash it went. It managed to be dry and greasy at the same time. There was something greasy between the layers but the layers themselves were very dry. Also tried the vegan Italian cream cake, and the cake itself was absolutely delicious once I had scraped off the icing, which I didn't care for at all. I would order this cake in the future, but I would get it without the icing. Overall, it was a bit less than average and not enough to make the trip down to South Shore area worth it just for this IMHO. I wanted to try it and happen to be in the area, so I drove the extra 3 me to give it a try. If it's still there in a year I might go back and give it another whirl as I know from personal experience that Vegan Cooking is an acquired craft, taking a long time to get the...
Read moreGrowing up on southern and Texas food, my family and I have a traditional flavor expectation. In our family we have everything from sweet-o-holics to salt-o-holics to ones with dietary restrictions such as gluten free. Plus, we are foodies. I believe most families have this kind of mix and it can be difficult to transition to healthier eating because most things taste terrible. The GF kiddo completely gave up on dinner rolls and most grocery GF items because they are terrible. BUT Jody and the team at Food of Life COMPLETELY nailed the flavor on their sweets and savory. We special ordered an apple pie and dinner rolls last Thanksgiving and it was fantastic...our kiddo got to enjoy the dinner rolls for the first time in years AND they were good! We cannot recommend Food of Life Bakeshop enough. Yes, try it. Find what you love. Ask them if you don't see it. I can promise, you will be shocked that something that healthy and/or accessible can...
