My family and I went to Sushi to the Moon for the first time today to try it out having seen that the restaurant had good reviews. However, when we ordered takeout: 2 spicy tuna rolls, 1 crazy california roll, bento box, and nigiri set, we were unbelievably disappointed. The staff were really welcoming and nice, but the spicy tuna rolls and nigiri were unpalatable. The rice was dry and we could tell that they were using very cheap rice as it was yellowing when usually sushi rice is light and fluffy. The nigiri was warm and had a mushy texture. My dad couldn't eat the rest of the nigiri and drove all the way back to the restaurant to return the food as the nigiri had a fishy smell. Not only that, the spicy tuna was a bright, almost neon red so we also returned those rolls. When we arrived at the restaurant, the staff were very friendly and helpful in trying to help us. They said that the chefs use food coloring in their tuna because there are two kinds of tuna and they use the cheaper tuna. We were very shocked as we had paid over $100 for our order but were given low quality sushi. Additionally, they said that the owner had changed recently. Thank you to the staff for having helped us with our order but we will not be going back.
I have also noticed that some of the reviews on Yelp and Google were passive aggressive. Instead of apologizing for their lack of good service or good food, the owner responded saying "when a customer leaves a bad review, we look at their preferences. Since you reviewed [another sushi place], it appears to be related to a competitor." Additionally, I noticed that recently the owner doesn't seem to care much about the customers as the owner replies with the same "We are still a new restaurant, just a year old, and we are evolving. Thank you very much for leaving the review. We will show you further progress. Thank you" every single time someone leaves a review whether on Google or Yelp. Hopefully, the excuse is no longer that the restaurant is only a year old but will try to fix the...
Read moreCame here because we saw it was a nice sushi place and all of the reviews seemed really good! As a food service worker I really try to give the benefit of the doubt to restaurants because everyone is understaffed but last night was ridiculous. Arrived at 6:45pm for a table of 5 and didn’t have a reservation so we had to wait (wasn’t a problem because we were waiting for the rest of our group to show up). We weren’t given a wait time or anything, just “wait until someone leaves”. Not to mention half of their tables were open and a lot of those tables hadn’t been cleaned off. We were seated at 7:00 and had waited for someone to greet us. Finally 7:20 our waitress showed up laughing and saying she accidentally went to the wrong table and forgot about us. 7:30 we asked the manager if we could get our waters and she said our waitress is getting them. It took 35 minutes for us to get WATERS. Around 8:00 we ended up getting our food. Our appetizers and main courses came out at the same time. (Also would like to note that all other tables around us were getting in and out quickly) Around 8:20 we were done eating and trying to pay. We had separate checks and the waitress could not remember what food went on which check. It took her FOUR tries to get our check right and still she didn’t get it right. We just said “forget about it we’ll pay for whatever is on our check”. Overall everyone was really nice (the host was great) and food was great but there was absolutely no organization. I would love to come back here again but if they could train their employees more on...
Read moreHonestly expected it to be better because of how good the reviews were. The ingredients were fresh but the execution was lacking. I ordered the Pink Lady, the deep fried Philly roll, and takoyaki. My boyfriend ordered the Tonkatsu. The Takoyaki was not crispy at all on the outside and the taste was off compared to other Takoyaki I’ve had. You get 3 balls for $8 which is the priciest Takoyaki I’ve ever bought since most places serve 6 for that price. The pink lady’s ingredients were fresh but I feel like they just threw these ingredients together and were like “I hope this works!” The Philly roll’s sauce was lacking in flavor and honestly felt the rice surrounding it was a little thick. I also got a side of unagi (eel) sauce and it was so watery! I’ve never gotten eel sauce that watery before.
Again, food was fresh, but poor execution. The atmosphere is SUPER cold and I felt it was so expensive for such a cheap atmosphere. It was cold inside too because of the huge windows. They also had balloons inside (I guess from a grand opening?) and it just made the place feel more cheap. We spent $90 not including tip and felt this was so expensive for what we got. Will not be coming back. If you want good food for your money, go to Kane. Or Xian Noodle if you’re on a budget but their takoyaki is a lot better and I think their sushi is on par with Sushi...
