Had great gluten free experiences here in the past, but unfortunately can no longer recommend as safe to my gf community. Does have gf miso soup & cucumber salad so you might not be totally out of luck if you're going in a group or something, also the marble sodas are great. But I don't know that I will be going back for sushi rolls myself, sadly.
Online ordered a tuna roll & salmon roll, both flagged "gluten allergy". Attempted to actively avoid any rolls that had wheat or gluten ingredients labelled on the menu to avoid this exact situation of substitute issues, but I unfortunately only remembered the imitation crab was not gf, I wasn't aware the surimi was not a different fish paste. The salmon roll is marketed as salmon + surimi salad, however it is not notated online that to actually receive a gluten free roll, you must choose the "$4 Add Deep Sea Crab" option as well as "Gluten Allergy". The option to choose Deep Sea Crab was available for both rolls, so it seemed like an arbitrary option like Add Avocado or Sauce on the Side. I'm totally fine with paying extra, especially for gf substitution, but there was no way to know until I managed to notice my "salmon" looked a bit too orange on my plate right before I took a big bite of straight gluten....luckily I decided to call & double check before I dug in.
The staff was very nice & I am awaiting a refund. No problems with the staff at all, just disappointed in the refund system available to them. The initial solution presented was for me to either get 1 free roll or to get the 1 "salmon" roll re-made. Since both rolls were made together, put in the same box, and completely touching, they were so obviously cross contaminated that when this solution was presented, it made me feel very uncomfortable with the idea of having my order re-made at all. The only way to make that order gluten-free would be to throw it out & remake both rolls with gf ingredients & gf tools on a sanitized, gf line with new packaging. Replacing only 1 roll would be giving me half of a gluten free order.
I'm disappointed, this was one of my favorite spots! But at this point, I wouldn't feel safe recommending this place to my gluten free friends anymore, if people can acknowledge the words "gluten allergy" and send out pure wheat....it's just not a safe bet for me or my friends with...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I ordered our food at 6:23pm for take out and said our estimated time to pick up was 6:50pm. We got there around 7:15pm because we were running a little late from getting off work. When we got there, there were couples walking out saying how terrible what ever they experienced with this restaurant was but we didn’t think anything of it. We walked in and it was still not ready, which wasn’t a bother because I get the estimated wait time isn’t always accurate, so we sat and waited there till 7:50pm until we finally got our food, with no talk of refund and/or a gift certificate. Our portions were smaller than we usually get and our sushi looked crushed. We ordered two entrees and a sushi roll so it wasn’t a lot and some how our sushi came cold after an hour wait, when it said it’d be done (btw it was a tempura roll which is supposed to come out hot). Not pleased with the service of the young blonde hostess that when we arrived told us our food would be out shortly and never came back to update us. The only person that did anything was the hostess with glasses that I could tell has been dealing with a lot of people’s rage for what is the kitchen’s fault. To be clear I’m almost always a reasonable person and this is the first time I’ve been inclined to make a review for any place. I wouldn’t have been upset, nor would I have posted this if this establishment would’ve shown any kind of apology, other than the only staff member that seemed to be doing anything, or some form of reimbursement to us. We know the place is a little expensive but we thought it was a nice place, so it was reasonable. Been hesitant to post, but a few days ago I went here. This was my first time, I normally don't try going to different sushi restaurants/bars.
The atmosphere seemed nice but was quickly ruined by the attitude of staff members. No one seemed happy to be there. I ordered a simple blackened tuna roll and had complimentary miso soup. The miso was a dark orange and had a musty taste to it, it didn't taste like normal miso. I had to ask for the miso soup, it was not offered even though it's complimentary. I asked for extra tofu and I got two pieces. The server was very loud while in the back and I could hear conversations from my table. I sat with out water for about 10 minutes as well while I could hear them screwing around.
My roll took 20 minutes to make and this is what is came out looking like (see the photo captioned "Blackened Tuna Roll). There was only one other table and it looked like they might have had a to go order as well.
When I asked the server what the roll was she gave it a weird look and brought it back to the sushi chef, they laughed about it. After 10 minutes of waiting a new roll was brought out to me that looked like my normal blackened tuna roll. It had a very strong vinegar taste to it.
I was excited to try this place but unfortunately this experience has ruined my chances of ever coming back. Poor service and sushi. I definitely do NOT recommend...
