I've been getting oil changes at this location, which used to be an Oil Can Henry's, for a few years now. My husband used to be a manager of a similar business, so we know the ins and outs. So in the past when I had employees try to sell me services by arguing with me about what color my antifreeze is supposed to be or trying to convince me that I "needed" services that I didn't, I understood and just brushed it off. I know that the employees are pressured to up-sell services and supplies to customers.
However, a couple days ago my husband brought our car in for an oil change. We paid $85 and while they were changing the oil, my husband asked the employee if they ran differentials on customer cars (a service that was included in every transaction at the business he managed in the past). The employee said that they did, at customer request. So, my husband requested that they do this. The employee then said, "Well, we're almost done here, so...," indicating to the other employee who had already come up from the bay. He then told my husband how much of an inconvenience it would be to do the service after the employee had already come up, not knowing that my husband literally used to do this for 7 years and knows full well that it would have taken them less than 2 minutes. They refused to run the differentials. Flat out refused to do part of their job, that we paid for, because the employee was lazy and didn't want to go back down into the bay and take an extra minute to complete a transaction. There wasn't a line of cars waiting and the employees weren't rushed. There was no excuse other than laziness and a lack of respect for customers.
I actually started having my husband take the car in for the oil changes BECAUSE of the lack of respect I felt I was receiving, with employees trying to convince me that I needed flushes of fluids that I knew were just fine or, as I noted earlier, telling me that there was something wrong with my antifreeze and they would need to do an entire flush because it was the wrong color, and then arguing with me when I told them that I had just changed it. I felt like I was constantly being harassed to buy things and treated like I didn't know anything. They were far less pushy with my husband. This is a small town, and there aren't many places, so I put up with it.
However, after this last time, I just have no desire to go back. I'll gladly drive 20-30 minutes to Albany or Corvallis for better service and employees that will actually perform the bare minimum requirements of their job. I realize this doesn't mean anything, but they've lost a...
Read moreWent in to get an oil change with oil and a filter I provided. They seemed less than pleased that I provided my own oil and filter, but reluctantly proceeded with the oil change. After biting my lip about them overextending my hood prop piston so they could jam theirs in there, it went pretty pleasantly. I left with a smile because I felt like once they got passed my bringing my own consumables, they understood the level of service expected, and I believed I got that. That was until I got home.
I came out to a pool of oil in my driveway the next morning, so that evening I checked the oil level and it was showing half full (the other half is now in my driveway.) So I went to pull off the lower engine shield and noticed there were several of the screws that affix it to the underside of the car hadn't been replaced. After shaking my head at that, I saw that the bottom of the oil pan was soaked in oil. I checked the drain plug to make sure it hadn't been cross-threaded, but after having heard and FELT the guy in the pit using an impact gun in that area of my car, I have to wonder if it wasn't just sent on home until it was good enough. There is no oil around the top side filter, but the engine cover is covered in oil (from hangs and rags.)
I do all my own oil changes for this very reason, and the only reason I went here this time is because it has been getting cold at night which is when I would have time to do it myself. LESSON LEARNED. No matter the weather, I'll be changing my own oil from here on out, or at least finding another shop to have work done at.
I even sent pizzas over as a thanks because one of them said that most of them hadn't eaten lunch yet. This was of course after the oil change was done, but it was done with the understanding that they had taken care of my car the same way an owner would, or at bare minimum, the way a lube shop SHOULD. I'm pretty upset with the way my car was treated here. I feel like they just do what they can to smile and wave you out the door once your card has been run.
Let's hope I don't have to replace my oil pan because of this shop... GO ELSEWHERE IF YOU CAN.
Pictures are of wiped off oil pan and lower engine shield 1.5 days...
Read moreAs a Repeat customer and always happy with the service I’ve received until today. I’m appalled of how dysfunctional today’s crew was. My Experience Today was horrible. Two vehicles were being serviced when I pulled in. No one came over to check in with me. A car pulled in next to me and was greeted first thing and run through a lights/blinker check. I was greeted after and ran through a quick check. The employees had no organized system they all appeared stressed and all over the place. One of the employees was new and appeared lost as to what to do pulling out her phone/ playing with something in her hand. This employee was on her phone googling how to do things. Once I was able to pull into the bay I popped the hood of my car. The New employee asked me if she could check my “cabin filter” located inside my car. Permission was given. The passenger of my car was asked to get out and sit in the back seat. The New Employee had no idea where the filter was so she pulled out her phone and once again was googling how to do her job. I showed her where the filter was located. The girl proceeded to tell me that no the filter was located inside the glovebox. The girl opened my glovebox and pulled everything out searching for The filter. I again showed her where it was located. Once she put all my things back into my glovebox she closed it and listened. After feeling around she finally found the filter. She showed me the filter and I agreed to get a a new one. The girl proceeded to try and put the new filter in after multiple attempts while saying that she felt awkward wasn’t able to. She asked a co worker to come install it for her. The Co worker came over and proceeded to make it clear “ putting these filters in was his absolute favorite thing to do”…” NOT” …(sarcasm)… once he put everything back together my oil change was finished up my oil pressure was checked. I wasn’t asked once if I wanted my tire pressure checked I had to ask. When I asked I got a “ Oh you want your tires checked too” the kid acted as if I was asking a lot. To be honest I’m not sure if I want to return to this Valvoline as it’s clear The employees today don’t have the proper training nor was there...
