I hate to give this place a one-star review, but I know I would be doing you a disservice by allowing you to go eat there. The pics, the place, and the menu just screamed a quaint, charming, and delicious diner.
My husband and I stopped by on our way home from a short road trip, and we were excited to try a Lebanon staple.
The place was extremely busy, and there was a familiarity that the patrons had with the staff that was really appealing. It was also a really cute diner that had some history to it, and I love these kinds of "dives.""
My first big miss was when we walked in. It's very confusing whether we're supposed to go to the register, seat ourselves, or wait to be seated. We had to ask a server even though there were at least four (busy) employees at the register. We were to seat ourselves, and we found a place tucked in a busy spot, but we didn't mind.
Secondly, my husband wanted a philly cheesesteak and didn't find out until he ordered that they no longer sold that. Okay....awkward, but he's flexible and went with a fried chicken sandwich. I went with a mushroom Swiss burger, and we decided to share tots and onion rings because they looked great in others' reviews.
The service was fast and the servers were friendly. We got our food and realized quickly that the most of our food was cold. It looked good but the inside of the tater tots and onion rings were cold. It looked they were fried golden and then reheated on the grill top but it left the insides very cold.
My burger had cold, canned mushrooms on top under a cold piece of white cheese (not sure what kind it was). There was no sauce or mayo or anything. I expected the burgers to be a fresh meat, smash burger from the pics and it was a bad cafeteria-quality thick, pre-made burger. You know what I'm talking about.
My husband's "fried chicken burger" had a bad cafeteria-quality processed chicken tender as the fried chicken that was also cold with some mayo lettuce and tomato. It was just very cold and felt unloved.
We both took a couple bites and it was just too much to overcome in quality and taste. We paid, tipped and left. The server awkwardly helped us check out and she could see we hardly ate a thing, but didn't mention or ask. We definitely weren't going to wait around for it to be remade.
For our meal with tip, we paid $26.00. The prices were decent, but cheap is bad in this instance.
I hope we are the exception and it truly seems that way since it was hopping, but we will not be returning...
Read moreWorried this might be the last place my dad would agree to eat between the middle of nowhere and the middle of nowhere, I stopped quickly. I knew it was going to be an old school greasy joint, but wow. It was really fried and old school, but not amazing in either of those. I really wanted the beans and cornbread. Seems simple enough, but they only do that on weekdays. I then had no idea what I wanted, but dad had already ordered and the server just stood there staring at me... So "shrimp Po boy with fries" flew out of my mouth. Frozen popcorn shrimp on a hoagie bun (the old school ones you had mystery patties on with BBQ sauce in middle school) with a sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce. The bread was too soft to hold everything on, so it was kind of ridiculous. It tasted alright, though, given the ingredients. My fries were lukewarm and unsalted (which is pretty shocking given the atmosphere) when they hit the table. Dad didn't seem overly impressed with his roast beef, mashed potatoes, and corn nuggets, either. They're super busy, so I'm sure we both ordered the wrong things and just should have gotten a burger or hotdog or something, but I'm even skeptical about that given the fries I received. Crinkle are high on my list of favorite fries, but they need to be cooked til crispy, seasoned, and served hot. đ€· I'm sure they have a loyal crowd given how long they've been open, and I wish them the best.
I always try to put a gluten free note when I remember to. GF people... Just...
Read moreThis is my first and will be my only experience at this place. I arrived about 12:15 and placed my order for a kid's meal. I felt that was plenty of time for me to get my son something to eat before his appointment at 1. 12:45 came around, and I tell the server that I need the food, can't wait any longer, and that my son has a therapy appointment at 1 that we cannot be late for. She then tells me that I need to go somewhere else, that my son's meal isn't ready and probably won't be for a bit. I went on down the road, picked something up for him to eat, which he had only a few minutes to do because of that unnecessary hold up. Btw, we ended up being late, and it is now recorded in his attendance recorded. So no food, and we were late anyway, and the server was of no help and really seemed to not care about us waiting so long or that we never got our food. I will not be going back, especially since the server was so rude and uncaring.
As for the response, surely I'd have fed my child beforehand if he was had reached the point of "starving" before we got there. No, he was just a little hungry, and he got a little something somewhere else anyway. I'm not sure where you think I said my child starved anywhere in my review is beyond me. Anyway, your server had mentioned us going somewhere else, and out of our convenience we did. Because yes, you were busy. If I was more informed about a 30 minute ish timeframe, I'd have just went somewhere else and think to come...
