Me and my husband just moved to Leeds and we’re going to eat some dinner and have a few drinks at Vans. They asked us to pay the cover for the singer that started at 9 and it was 7 so we knew we wouldn’t be there until 9 so we said “never mind we are just going to go somewhere else thank you though!” As we walked out one of the workers said in a sarcastic rude tone “Vans costs money.” My husband was already out the door, but I turned to the worker and said “that was rude.” My husband then told the worker we just wanted to eat and have a few drinks so we didn’t want to pay cover when we wouldn’t see the band. We have no issue paying cover for a band and no issue with them charging cover at 7 when the band starts at 9. It was the extremely unnecessary and rude comment the worker said to a us when we were not rude at all. My husband has eaten there before so I wanted to try it out. First time at Van's and truthfully, it was to watch my nephew play in his band, The Flying Monkeez. I have checked out other events on FB and was surprised to see such a variety of offerings. Karaoke, line dancing instructions (guys need to sign up for this), open mic night, a big genre of music groups, plus pool tables, foosball, and corn hole. Drinks were good and reasonably priced, food was great, staff was friendly and everything was super clean, unlike some bars were you don't want to touch anything. Plenty of parking and security!
