I had been here once or twice a few years ago and thought I would try it out again. Came in with my son and his dad as we had enjoyed the food. I don't know what happened this time but the food, at least mine and my exes were not great.
It seems that the restaurant is under new ownership as I did not recognize the staff from before and there is a new menu with what looks like higher prices.
The waitress was sweet as is the only reason I gave the service 4 stars.
We ordered the Antipasto Salad for the table and was very under whelmed and curious why it cost $14.00 when the majority of it was lettuce. We asked for Italian dressing, and we couldn't eat it. It was made with the harshest balsamic vinegar that it actually hurt. We asked for olive oil and red wine vinegar for the salad and got oil and balsamic vinegar. That was a bit better since we could control how much was used. But for me, this was NOT worth $14.00
My son ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken added to it. Of all the dishes, this looked the best. This is my son's favorite dish, and I was happy he enjoyed it. He stated it was very good, only thing he would change is that there was too much sauce on the plate. That is really not a complaint just a notation in the future, if there is one, that he would ask for less sauce.
My ex ordered the Meat Lover's Calzone - small. One of the truest statements I can make about this was that it was indeed SMALL. He said the taste was good but that it was very small and not worth paying $17.00 for that small of a portion. Also, that is did not seem like there was very much on the inside either. Between that and the salad, for him, the meal was disappointing.
For me, I ordered the Cheesesteak Sub with Onion Rings. I didn't mind paying an upcharge for the onion rings, most places do this, and they were good. But I was VERY disappointed in the sub. I am a huge lover of Cheesesteak Subs, and this one was a big miss. The size was ok but lacking in the filling. There was ZERO seasoning, the bread was dry, and there was barely any green peppers or onions. At one point I asked the waitress for some A1 sauce so that I could get some flavor to the sub. The sub alone was $13.99, with the onion rings put it to $16.99. For that amount of money, this sandwich should have been WAY better! Jersey Mikes is less money, but you get a lot of bang for your buck.
I ordered 2 cannoli for my exes missed birthday and it cost me $10 bucks - $5 a cannoli. The other thing I didn't understand was why certain sodas were available as a fountain drink and then others you had to buy in a 20 oz. bottle. My son got a Dr. Pepper, and my ex got a Sprite, and both were in a bottle which meant no free refills and the charge for the bottled drinks where $3 and change. When did 20 oz sodas get to be so much??!!
I have always been a big advocate for dining at local restaurants and not going to the franchises. But it is hard to do that when a local business charges what they do and then provide a subpar meal. Especially when our bill came to $77.00, BEFORE TIP, for 3 people. We don't get to eat out very often and it is always a bummer when we get to splurge and go out and it is such a disappointment.
Maybe the crew was just having an off day but, this is probably the last time we will come back. The prices are too high and did not match with the quality of food provided. I think I would do better to put that money into the ingredients to make a super nice meal at home and...
Read more11 Mar 2023. This was our first visit. We visited Mamma Mia's for dinner. We read a number of great reviews and our drive-by indicated it was a quaint establishment... We were greeted promptly by the staff, and the live piano player (Tommy) as well. The live performer was a bonus... He's a fabulous and funny guy! We didn't expect his presence as we didn't see him mentioned in the reviews we read... Nice surprise! The atmosphere was pleasant, staff was friendly and very attentive. Other customers we never met before were very friendly as well. This is not a bad restaurant and the portions of the pasta meals are impressive! So.... The reasons for the three star review are as follows: the salad was made with preshredded lettuce like you'd expect on a sub sandwich. I'd really prefer whole or semi cut leaves and not shredded sandwich lettuce. The red sauce was a bit bland. It wasn't bad, just a bit under seasoned. Asked for extra marinara / non-meat sauce for my chicken parm with pasta and it was an extra $2.00. Usually at Italian restaurants, a bit of extra sauce isn't extra fee. I could buy an entire jar of marinara for 2 bux!My wife ordered a calzone. Usually calzones are quite puffy and full of the various fillings requested. This one was kinda flat and lacked substantial fillings beyond the cheese. Also... At the end of the meal, we were a bit annoyed to see what appeared to be a hidden surcharge that we did not expect and was not disclosed, at least not in an obvious way before we ordered. That's no bueno under any circumstances. Will we be back... Maybe. As I said the food wasn't bad, just a bit underwhelming. But overall it's the kind of family-run business that you REALLY want to like and support. Probably worth...
Read moreWhere to begin...we (group of 5) arrived a few minutes after 1pm on a Friday to eat in for lunch. We sat down at the table and the waitress who greeted us at the door took way too long to come over to get our drink order. After taking our drink order, the waitress comes back 10 mins later to take our food order and we still have not received our drinks. We ordered the 2 piece lunch special to be quick. 10 mins after the food order was placed (30 mins after we arrived) the waitress finally came over with drinks but she messed up the order on 1 drink and forgot the other. Its 1:50 by now and 2 people came in, talked with the waitress who they were clearly friends with, sat down and received drinks right away. By now it's a couple minutes to 2pm and I have to leave to go pick up my daughter from school. As I'm leaving, the 2 people that recently came in received their food and only called the order in 10 mins prior to showing up (clearly stated by the owner who was joking with them about it). The service was awful including the owner since he didn't do anything to assist the waitress, food took way to long, and my husband paid for food I didn't even get to eat there because I had to leave. When I finally did get to eat my food, the pizza was bland and had no flavor. I would have been better off going to hungry howies. I have been disappointed on many other occasions with their quality of food when taking out and keep trying in hopes it was just that time but to no avail still disappointed. I will make sure to tell people that Mamma Mia's is not worth the...
