I had Spudly Donuts for the first time this week, and I loved them - the density, the flavor, the moist doughy center. Perfectly cooked donuts. I was so excited to share this newfound treat with my wife! So we went and picked up donuts today. I was eager for my wife to experience a Spudly donut for the first time. To my surprise she said it was the worst donut she had ever had! Now, at this point I was both surprised and excited, because that meant I got the whole dozen to myself! But then I tried a donut for myself and realized that it was pretty bad. It was dry, light, kind of a little darker, over-cooked, and realized we must have gotten a bad batch.

So I took them back to the store, and shared my story with the workers who were kind enough to replace some of the donuts. Unfortunately, they probably didn't have food handling training, and upon returning the bad donuts, they put them back on the shelf to be sold to other customers. Which was shocking not only because I had already taken these donuts home but also because these were bad donuts and they were planning on selling them again 🤢

The new donuts were indeed better. But I couldn't help but wonder if they too had been taken home. I'm not sure if the original donuts served to us were a day old or if they've just been overcooked, but Spudley Donuts has a great recipe, and would do well to make sure every box is fresh and baked to perfection — it only takes one bad experience to...
