I have been to tons of sushi places but this one by far was the worst! If you like great tasting sushi this is not the place for you. The only reason my husband and I went was because of the good reviews, but I have no idea what those people saw in this place. It’s a very local place considering so maybe it’s just people for that area that believe this place is worth more than a single star. Some people don’t know good sushi and this is not it! We got three roll which were horrible. One of them (I believe the name was dragon roll, however I’m unsure) which tasted like over powering taco seasoning. It had orange sauce. Another had a pink wrapping (which I’ve never seen before) tasted like honey ham (not the good kind either) all the fishes that they cooked seemed over done. The house roll wasn’t even good! Usually with sushi you can taste all the flavors individually as they all come together as one, with this sushi however it taste like mush. One taste for every roll besides the fact of the honey ham wrapper and the taco seasoning sauce. I didn’t eat much and had a hard time keeping it down afterwards. My husband even felt sick to his stomach after. Not only does the sushi completely suck! The place is small and it’s like they want it to be a clown car. What I mean by that is the place is just packed with tables and chairs and it’s hard to maneuver around. I literally could be at my table and touch the person at the next table just by reaching out. And going to the bathroom is a lot of trouble. If a table could fit, they put one in. The place is kinda run down with chipped paint everywhere you look and old tables and chairs. The bathroom is nice however just located in a weird spot and hard to get to with all the seating. They had a wine I tried that was good too, however just go to the store and get it don’t waste your money or time at this place. I can recommend way better options. I went to this place on my birthday a few days ago and it ruined the night for me. I’ve never had horrible sushi until now. Save...
Read moreIts been 5 years already since I first started eating at Sushi Uni, back when the restaurant was half of its size. Their food quality is great, must try hot and sour soup as well as affordable sushi/roll option during lunch time.
But the wait time is just ridiculous. Almost all of the time, when I place a pick up order, they say 30 min wait. Drive there to pick up my order after 30 min, food is not even nearly ready, had to wait 30-45 more minutes to pick up my food.
During the last visit here, decided to dine-in. Ordered 4 rolls, 1 appetizer, 1 soup to share with friends. Groups who sat on the other tables got all their foods and left already. Even the group who got seated 20 minutes after us got their food. I've decided to talk to our server mentioning that its been 45+ minutes since we ordered our food and he didn't even apologize for the food being late and really blamed us for being impatient by saying "Other people wait longer than that, the table next to you got their food first because they only ordered one roll. we are short staffed"
I saw the server talking to the owner, owner came by to serve our food 10 minutes later. To be honest, really expecting the owner to at least apologize for the server's behavior or the food being served extremely late. But nope, no apologize at all. Seriously, this is not okay. I've at least saw 10 pick up orders being processed while I was waiting for my food for 45 minutes. Obviously pick up orders will allow you to earn more money since its quick and fast. But really making dine-in customers wait and not providing them with the estimate time when they'll be served is just rude and not respecting the customer's time.
I get the server being rude, as they don't own the place, can't expect them to have the owner's mind. But the owner acting like nothing happened when they clearly saw that customer is not happy and in fact upset with their service? Yeah, prob not going back to this place. I would give 0 star but Google won't...
Read moreSo let me start with a disclaimer - everyone I've talked to shares the same observation, Sushi Uni didn't used to be like this...what happened? I've been to Sushi Uni several times, and with each visit, the service has gone from mediocre to poor to absolutely dismal. On my last visit, we arrived at about 8pm on a Saturday Night. The restaurant was reasonably busy, but there were empty tables and no wait (we had a reservation). Our server was reasonably friendly, but not particularly enthusiastic. No problem. However, our appetizers took 30+ minutes (we ordered 2 Spicy Crab Salads), and we were only delivered one. The sushi order took another 45+ Minutes (2 rolls and 2 orders of nigiri), as did everyone else's at the table - with no explanation or comment from the staff. By the time we got our food, the restaurant was mostly empty. The rolls are good, but not spectacular even by KC standards. I'm extremely disappointed and I won't be bringing my business here again. We have an abundance of Sushi spots in the area and I'm not going to waste my time somewhere that doesn't take any effort with customer service or satisfaction.
I'm giving 2 stars since the food is decent and prices are competitive with other establishments, but the service is the worst...
