Chartroose Caboose — Restaurant in Lenexa

NEEDS MANAGEMENT BAD!! I have been eating at Chartroose Caboose for almost 20 years, ever since they had a location at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Antioch Rd. The Metcalf location is still great, and the Lenexa location used to be great, too! I have been eating there a lot since we moved back to Shawnee in 2017. Not any more. The last 3 visits have ruined it. A month ago I went in and I was the only customer there, one adult working the grill and a young man on the register who was CLEARLY more interested in talking his social life to the lady on the grill than helping me, the customer. When he finished his story, he saw me and took my order, in between telling more stories to his coworker. After ringing me up, he turned and told the lady at the grill the wrong order. I corrected him. TWICE. Normally, they start the fries when they start the meat on the grill, and both are done around the same time. This guy was so into gabbing about this and that, he didn't drop the fries into the oil until AFTER the sandwich was done. This was a carryout order, so when I got home the sandwich was just meat and wet mushy bread. I was so disappointed and mad that I waited a month to go back.

Next trip was on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30pm. Again, I walked in and was the only customer, and there was NO ONE behind the counter to greet me. There was also very LOUD hip-hop music blasting in the restaurant (with some rather surprisingly inappropriate lyrics for a restaurant) . I waited for 5 minutes or so, then started calling out, "Hello?" but I doubt anyone could hear me over the loud music. I walked over to double check the "Open" sign, and it was turned off. So I started to wonder " are they closed??" Then I noticed an arm and a leg sticking out from behind a cooler or something in the back room. The arm was holding a cell phone. Then I saw another arm pop out. It became clear that the two young girls that were working were hiding behind this piece of equipment (a cooler maybe?) and posing for "selfies" with each other, jamming out to their loud music. I yelled "HELLO!!!" over the music and one of the girls peaked around sheepishly, said something to the other girl and they both jumped up. One ran to turn down the music. I tried to place the order, and she got it wrong twice. Then I asked about paying with a Gift Certificate someone had given me as a gift (I told you, I USED to eat there a lot). She was very confused, so she asked the other girl. She was also confused and both clearly had no idea what to do with a Gift Certificate a payment. The they saw that it was made at the Metcalf location and told me I could not use it at the Lenexa location. At that point, I said, "Nevermind. You two can just go back to talking selfies. I'll go somewhere else." And I left furious.

A few weeks later, I decide to give it one last try. I checked online and Google said they were open until 10:00pm. I tried to call to make sure, but no answer. I decided to drive by and see, When I pulled up at 9:05pm, the "Open" sign was off (but it was also off the last time i stopped by at 2pm when they were "Open"), and there were several people inside eating. As I walked in, one guy was walking out with a to go order, and I noticed two girls wearing Chartroose Caboose aprons talking to a car of people in the parking lot. I went inside and stood at the counter. No one there. I waited a few minutes and the two girls came in from the parking lot. One of the girls walked up to me and said, "We're closed." I looked around at the people in there eating and told her, "it says online that you are open tonight until 10pm?" She said, "Yeah, I know. I don't know why it says that, but we close at 9pm." So I left. Again with no food.

The Lenexa location needs a manager and these kids need supervision NOW before you lose more customer.at the Lenexa location. I miss the old staff! They ran...

I wish i could get negative stars. My family used to love this place. We had my dads funeral yesterday and it was one of his favorites so to celebrate him, we decided to eat there. It was a hard day and we just wanted a good meal. I ordered online but decided to pay in person. I ordered 3 of the 10" sandwiches, 2 orders of onion rings and 1 order of tots. When i arrived I asked the very nice young lady at the counter to add another Katy to my order, exactly the same as the other. The cook begins making my food and they are all 6" sandwiches even though i had already paid for the 10s. But she was so openly rude to the young lady at the counter that i didnt want to correct her anymore as that young girl was almost in tears. I get ONE order of onion rings and they put the tots in with a sandwich and it wasnt even with the correct sandwich. After she makes the first 3, the cook just stares at me like what do you want? So i said i added another sandwich. After arguing with me and the young lady at the register, she finally had to have the receipt pretty much shoved in her face to believe it. She starts making it and its wrong. She grabs the steak and it was clearly turkey. She gets mad, slams the streak in the trash and angrily cuts up the turkey. She did not put extra cheese on the Katy which is part of what they come with and everything the girl at the counter asked her, she yelled at her and was so rude. I did not want to complain anymore as I knew I would be leaving and I knew the woman cooking was going to take it out on that young lady. They were not busy and when i left, there was no one else in the restaurant yet the cook acted as if she was swamped or had better things to do. She absolutely refused to be friendly to me and was openly rude and aggressive to her coworker. I spent almost 70.00 for food that honestly was not worth 20. Worst service I have ever experienced. I am glad i could see her cooking because i think she would have done something to the food if she was in the back. The young lady at the register was so kind and patient but i could tell she was so stressed and embarrassed. I had already had a hard day and wanted to enjoy a meal in honor of my dad and it was probably one of the worst experiences all the way around I have ever had. We used to love this place. Now, i dont think i could ever return. Everything was awful and the service was deplorable. That makes me so sad because my dad would have been devastated to know his favorite place went down hill so badly. If i hadnt felt so sorry for the young lady at the register, i would have given all of the food back since it was wrong and i was overcharged since i did not get what i ordered and just asked for a refund. But i did not want to make that young ladies day any worse. I dont usually like to leave reviews complaining but there was no one there to even talk to so this is the only way i can try to make sure people know and hope the company does better. We loved them, especially this location and I would love for them to get things fixed so maybe one day, i will return. But i will never go in and spend nearly 70.00 again and don't get what i ordered and be made to feel like me ordering food ruined the person who was cooking its entire day!! If i could give negative stars for this particular visit i would but it makes me give at least 1 star. Please know, this visit did not even deserve that. Maybe for the girl at the register it deserves more but that doesnt make up for all...

I just had one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. We walked into the restaurant to the front counter where three of the ladies that were working there were complaining and arguing over their manager not giving them their paychecks yet. More than once, totally unprofessional, I can't even believe it. Then when I ordered the Philly cheese steak rice bowl, they failed to tell me that they were out of most of the ingredients in so they just threw some parts of it together and handed it to me as is. I ordered a steak with brown rice which also includes fresh made salsa on it. They were out of brown rice, did not tell me, and just threw in white rice thinking I wouldn't notice, and then when I went to take it back and ask him where the salsa was she said we're out of that. Then one of the ladies that was arguing and complaining about her paycheck started throwing a fit and yelling at everybody saying now she's going to have to leave the building and go to the grocery store and buy all the stuff to make it. Then I open up my green tea bottle from the refrigerated cabinet only to have it taste like it was moldy and found out it was expired and so were all the other ones in there. They wouldn't give me my money back and said I could exchange it for another drink which subsequently was also expired. I may end up calling the city health department on this since they're now selling expired food products. I would hate to see what's going on behind the scenes in the refrigerator! I will never go back to this restaurant...
