Server was pleasant, atmosphere was nice. Food wasn't awful, but not good enough for me to return.
Fried pickles appetizer was unique in that the pickles are cut like french fries before breading. They however don't have any seasoning that makes fried pickles craveable. Just plain breading, which of course anything fried is edible, but as they cooled off they became off-putting.
The St. Louis ribs were practically non-edible. They were almost fried on the bottom, then a very thin layer of meat on top, and a flavorless sauce. No dry rub seasoning, practically no meat, but the meat that was there was too tough to chew.
The pulled chicken looked nice plump pieces of meat, and moist, but served scarily cool. Not cold, not warm, cool. Really makes one concerned about food safety. There was ZERO flavoring of any kind, very extremely slight hint of smoke, maybe if you pretend hard enough, but no seasoning at all. They did put PARSLEY FLAKES on top of it?! Now that's spicy!
The cucumber/onion salad was pretty good, smaller portion, but for some reason all BBQ places love giving your a 2oz side, like cucumbers and onions and vinegar cost practically anything. The deluxe mac and cheese for $2 extra (I don't feel like looking up the exact name and price, but that's close) was flavorless mac and cheese, with a bit of extra cheese sprinkled on top and some bacon. A 3 year old would have liked it, but it wasn't "deluxe" or whatever nonsense. I'd doubt there was more than 1 (maybe 2) type of cheese in it at all, definitely no gouda or gruyere, no baked crust, or cheesy gooeyness.
The turkey was a decent sized portion, moist, and did have a bit of seasoning on the outside. It was the best part of the meals. The french fries were awful, at first they look like beach fries, but then you find they are swollen with air and stale grease flavor. Not salty, seasoned, definitely not peanut oil or anything to give it flavor. I don't know how you can so badly mess up french fries of all things, but here we are.
The 3 sauces weren't really any good. The sweet one was awful. The spicy wasn't spicy but had a bit of flavor, and the smokey was weak. I found mixing the spicy and smokey together was mediocre but at least, but you'd almost be better choosing the Heinz ketchup over the house sauces.
A true disappointment and waste of money. Too bad, I had been here like 4 years ago and everything was good. Seems like food found in a senior...
Read moreNot good at all! My family would not eat here again. We had eaten here years ago and had a similar experience as the one this past weekend. I thought maybe it was an off day. We ordered a cheese burger , pulled pork, Crab Mack and cheese, pulled pork sandwich, I ordered full rack of baby back ribs as the did not have the trio I wanted. They were out of the sausage, and St. Louis ribs. I asked if they used liquid smoke as I know the first time we visited they did. I told the family before we went “ let’s just go to mission BBQ as they are pretty consistent across all chains. I know BBQ and I cook a brisket 18 hours slow and my pulled pork can go as long as 12-22 hrs based on weight and if I wrap and place in a sealed cooler. The sausage I cook is served Memphis style like rendezvous in Memphis. I have participated in professional cook offs in TN. The ribs were not cooked low and slow like ribs have to be to get the real smoke ring. I asked for a dry rub and a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The potatoes tasted like the night before and simply terrible. When the server brought them to the table they looked grey and tasted exactly what they were, Par boiled. I said “these are boiled” the waiter said, “ let me ask in someone”. A manager came by and said “ no they are smoked”. She was absolutely wrong as my wife is also a Southern cook. This is why we rarely eat pulled pork or ribs out. I refused the ribs and opted to eat the wedge salad I ordered. It was just ok. Keep in mind while living in TN we ate pulled pork at least once a week. What they do at Bethany Blues is boil the ribs or pressure cook then throw a Smokey sauce on and stick in an oven to brown. There was no rub on these ribs at all. The presentation was horrible. A rack of boiled ribs on a white dish and a small saucer of the night before potatoes. We arrived at 4:50 or so. They didn’t even brown the ribs. Seriously the worst tasting BBG place I have ever been. The cheese burger was supposed to be medium and it was well done and dry. I say just don’t eat BBQ here it will be a waste of your money. The fried pickles were wet with grease. My waiter Germane was fantastic and a really great guy. We had a great conversation just about life and that part was the great. My review is don’t eat here unless you just are too hungry to drive some where else. Tough review but an honest one. I also never write reviews, hence why I know what I am...
Read moreWhenever visiting a new place, I'm always looking for great places to eat. Sometimes it is a hit, sometimes not. Flew in from the Portland/Vancouver area to do a job that has us working nights when the business is closed has us asleep most of the day. So unfortunately by the time we found this place we walked in with less than 60 minutes before closing. Great we avoided the big dinner rush but it did worry us that the food quality might be less than normal as most staff are already performing their closing procedures and might not have as much enthusiasm to cater to the last minute orders. We were seated just outside the bar area where all the action was and all the people were. Then when we needed a few minutes to look at the menu our server walked away giving us the feeling she wasn't coming back any time soon. Then the bartender showed up and got drinks for us pretty quickly. He even prepped one at our table. Which he smoked and was excellent. 35 minutes to close our food is now in the hands of the cook. Nervous with so little time left, we thought we would be still eating after the doors would be locked. The chef brought our food to the table with a great attitude and a smile. Everything was great. My buddy had the pork belly burnt ends with a salad. I ordered the cod fish and chips and then the rib sampler with baked beans plus Mac and cheese. Our faith restored, we didn't say a word while eating. Utterly enjoying every bite anxious for the next. Being completely ignorant to what was available in the area as well as times most businesses closed was 100% our fault but we took a gamble and I must say they knocked it out of the park. I would definitely recommend this place with the suggestion of giving yourself more time to actually enjoy it. Even our original server came back around and redeemed herself and was super attentive. Maybe I misjudged a little too quickly and too harshly. Thanks to the staff for taking care of us and I promise next time I show up it will be hours before close and more prepared to try the many other menu items that made my selection for the 2 I did more difficult.
