Great new breakfast place at the shore! Host/owner greets every customers and customers seem genuinely delighted to have yet another breakfast option in this beach town. Cafe Pink Blossom's (CPB's) main competition are Lewes' "Nectar Restaurant" and "Honey's Farm Fresh Gourmet Restaurant." In this case, CPB stacks up nicely, with made-to-order food, fresh-squeezed orange juice and an English Muffin that was straight from some bakery, not the prepackaged kind we get in the grocery store. I asked for a "Meat Lover's Omelette" not something on their menu (currently) the owner was more than happy to make one custom for me and it's one of the very best that I've had. Now, keep in-mind, I visited the restaurant only two days after it's initial opening so the staff, menus and food all showed an amount of "polish" representative of a great deal of background work by the owners and staff. One thing that really stood out is how happy all of the patrons seemed to be to have a new place for breakfast; more than one expressed how they had just been waiting for CPB to open. It's important to note that CPB is on-par with both Honey's and Nectar's pricing, meaning it's a bit on the high-side: for example, my typical breakfast at Bob Evans runs about $18 and includes some type of omelette, large juice and coffee. At both Nectar and Honey's this same combo is $25-$27. My meat-lovers omelette, a large juice and coffee at CPB was $27. In addition both Nectar and Honey's serve signature food: Honey's features the eastern European Latkes (potato pancake although theirs is served in a pie-slice form), and Nectar features their signature sweet-potato hash browns. Since CPB is owned by an eastern european lady, I would hope that perhaps she will add a signature dish of her own to CPB's menu! My only criticism, and this is a very common criticism for most breakfast places in this area as well as most diners: I'm guessing, but I would bet that CPB gets it's coffee from its restaurant condiment vendor (e.g. Sysco). The coffee tasted like typical diner coffee, a bit acidic and not very smooth at all. I compare that to chain restaurants like Bob Evans and Cracker Barrel that use their own blend of coffee which is much more enjoyable. So, my advice would be, ditch the condiment coffee and try a smoother, less acidic blend. One of the pleasures of breakfast is morning coffee, it always amazes me when a restaurant goes the extra mile to stand out and then serves so-so coffee. As for the physical restaurant it has two dining rooms, a small bar and a patio filled with tables under umbrellas. The interior is done in a shade of pink and most of the chairs share that same shade and the walls features objects which play on the Pink Blossom theme. The chairs were high-back chairs and the owners did take the extra-step to add (thin) cushions. I guess that would be suggestion #2: add some thicker cushions to the chairs to make the dining experience even better. All tolled a great new breakfast place run by clearly devoted owners who are striving to make this a success. Much luck!...
Read moreThis was our first time here. There was no one at the desk. A woman was waiting to pay and there was a backup starting at the door. No staff acknowledged anyone. We waited a bit for someone to show up. There were a lot of orders stacked up at the window sitting under heat lamps. We got to a table. It was very loud in the side room due to large parties, which I realize is not under their control. My husband ordered an Irish coffee. Surprisingly it came out cold not hot. Didn't realize we would need to specify. I ordered a burger and he ordered an omelet. He said his omelet was decent but the home fries had no taste and were burnt. My burger was absolutely disgusting. It tasted like wet cardboard. It had zero flavor like any meat I have ever eaten. The consistency was like dog food. I asked for medium rare and it was gray and mushy. Inedible. Our server never returned to ask if everything was ok, did we need refills, nothing. She only returned to drop off the check. I wish I could post the pictures I took. We did mention it when asked how was everything at the checkout and he apologized offered a $5 discount. We didn't care about a discount just wanted to let them know how bad it was. We...
Read moreI had high hopes for Cafe Pink Blossom, but my experience was mixed. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which were good—the hollandaise was nicely done, but the piece of Canadian bacon was disappointingly small. We shared a side of pork roll that was sliced so thin it ended up rubbery, and at $6 for just two slices, it felt really overpriced.
My boyfriend got the stuffed sweet cream cheese blueberry pancakes, which tasted good… until he found a used paper straw wrapper inside them. That was really off-putting. The waitress was kind and offered to take it off the bill, but the owner at the register seemed annoyed about it and didn’t offer any apology, which left a bad taste in our mouths.
The wait staff was polite overall, but between the high prices, small portions, and questionable kitchen hygiene, we probably won’t be back...
