Why is sushi like fast food? Both feature a predictable menu and, to a casual observer, the food is pretty much the same from location to location.
To be sure, a trained palate can tell the difference and an untrained eye can easily identify poorly constructed (or cut) temaki (rolls), nigiri (pieces), and sashimi (just fish). But, let's face it, a burger is a burger, and a tuna roll is a tuna roll.
What distinguishes sushi is the ambience and presentation. And, you must admit, the price.
Sushihanna is clean, light and airy, but mostly fungible with any asian-food-takeout. In fact, the menu and the sign in the window say, "Carry-out only." There are a few tables and a sushi bar counter but, when I ate dinner, I was the only sit-down diner. 2024 update: several tables full, some couples, some families.
The sushi was well prepared and tasty, as was the minimalist miso soup. In fact, the soup was better than tasty. But, as for ambience and presentation? The soup was in a styrofoam cup with a plastic spoon and the sushi in a plastic take-out tray. Soy sauce in a plastic container.
No complaints, here. The price matched the spartan surroundings and place setting. There's times when fancy is good, and times when the same good food at a good price is just as good.
Four stars with an asterisk: not fair to compare it to a fancy sit-down place. 2024 update: I still like the place and will...
Read moreListen, I actually had a less than favorable experience at this place. They got half of our order wrong and we had to drive back to the restaurant 30 mins away just to have the remake half the order. (as you can imagine half of our food would be been sitting quite awhile by then.) But hear me out, I got home and the food was amazing. Sure the food got all over my car and my clothes because they didn't package it right, sure I wasn't really satisfied for how they reimbursed me for getting my order wrong. But when I sat down and ate their food, I didn't care about how inconvenient it was for me to return back to get the right order. Their food is top notch, so much that after having that experience I had to come home and write a positive review. There is a lot of love in this place. I think they were pretty overwhelmed tonight, most people got their stimulus...
Read morePoor service—took a long time to even receive menus and we had to ask for them. Shrimp teriyaki had shrimp poop in it, and the waitresses just said "idk" when I asked what it was—later looking it up to find out it was poop. The boss man tries to persuade me to continue to eat it and even tells me "when I go back to my own country, I'll know and that it's the same thing (that there is poop in the shrimp)". Huh?? Then I offer to pay for everything else besides that one dish and then the boss man says "there's nothing I can do. JUST GO" and points at the door". (This literally happened.) I offered multiple times to pay for everything else and he continues to frustratingly ask us to leave. Wow. Beautiful service indeed. As an Asian student talking to an Asian owner, I'm not sure if this would happen to other people. Maybe he just...
