I was walking home the other night/early morning... and the familiar pang of hunger struck me as I approached the Grub Truck and Buy the Dozen on Main Street in Moscow, ID. Honestly, not sure if it was true hunger or some pavlovian twinge activated by that time and place and the presence of food trucks. It really didn't matter because it was there. And there was I.
I remember visiting Buy the Dozen in my early years of coming to Moscow. They had a shop nestled into a spot on 6th Street I think? Don't quote me on that. Anyway, I was new to town, fresh-eyed, first year of college, on my own for what seemed like the first time to make my own decisions and mistakes. It took me awhile to open up and explore beyond the confines of campus and it was the Farmers Market that brought me out of my shell and into the community. I'm getting off track. I stumbled upon Buy the Dozen (BTD) and as a student in the design field, their catchy name stuck with me forever - one of my first muses. When I tried their morsels of lavender donuts, it was love at first bite. They introduced me to flavor combos I never knew I needed. Thank you for that.
I digress.
Back to present day, it's 2025, quarter-passed 1 in the morning on a Saturday night and there was a small crowd gathered at the Two Trucks on Main Street. I wanted something small, like an hors-d'oeuvre-sized portion to tide me over for the remainder of my walk home. At BTD, a kind stranger gifted me one of their donuts to test the sweetness - the oreo donut. It was delightful, chewy, scrumptious and ohhh so sweet. My tastebuds had enough sugar for one evening but the fried batter beneath was just what I was looking for. Time to think outside of the box.
After placing an order for fried dough-O's from Buy the Dozen, I trotted over to Grub to brainstorm options for savory. After explaining my situation, the folks at Grub were eager to assist in making my late night, sober munchy dreams come true. They recommended their Garlic Sauce which was a blend of absolute flavor glory - oh my god it smelled so good. Specific shout out to whomever thought up that sauce and makes it for the folks to enjoy. You're the hero we need in these trying times.
Cup in hand, anticipation propelled me like a child excited for spring, or candy, or whatever a child can be excited for which is literally anything and everything. I am a child in this grown ass body. This was my spring. I shared my experiment and the aqcuired sauce with the fella behind the counter at BTD. The wee donuts were fried in canola oil to a golden crisp outside. Nestled together like little golden gems. Their bite-size is 80% of the appeal. I ate one by itself for integrity-sake. Soft, pillowy, fried, roasty-toasty goodness. Now was the time to bring the dream to reality - savory donut time. Loaded with a generous portion of the sauce, the first sauced donut was everything I wanted in that moment and more. Savory, garlicy, fresh, zingy, crispy, chewy, melt-in-your-mouth tastiness. My tastebuds were thrilled, my tummy satisfied. I horked down the remaining donuts and most of the sauce, shared my joy and gratitude with the folks at both trucks, and sauntered home - pleased with the evening and myself.
It seemed a crime to throw away the remaining portion of sauce. Instead, I stopped in at a friend's house and gifted them the rest. So good it needed sharing.
This collab was truly a gift to the universe and I am deeply grateful to the folks at BTD and Grub Truck for the good conversation and willingness to try something new with me. Go out on a limb and find that what lies beyond is actually a community of people feeding and nurtuting the life, creativity, and play within each other.
Thank you Buy the Dozen.
Signed, Nostalgic Cyd

Read moreVisiting daughter in Clarkston and she suggested we drive over to Buy the Dozen donuts. It’s a food truck that makes mini donuts. Parked close to Home Depot in Lewiston. We stood in line to get our mini donut fix. I ordered the 12 with cinnamon sugar on 6 and the other 6 Carmel glaze. The place was steady with people lining up and more people showing up. Well worth the wait. Daughter had the lavender sugar and lemon. The sad part was no pictures because we devoured them really fast. The donut trailer is not in this spot everyday so better check there web site to find out where there parked. Going to be a place we will stop at next time we are in Lewiston. Trailer was very clean and...
