First of all, let me say, I do not have an axe to grind with Jollymore's. On the contrary, I was acutely looking forward to my dinner here in a nostalgic longing sort of way. Twentyish years ago I had my first Ahi tuna here in this location (then it was Jonathon's) which rocked my world. So, this restaurant is kind of special to me. Not only was I hugely disappointed in what's become of this restaurant, I can not recommend it anymore. What troubles me the most is that its supposed to be fine dining. It mostly looks that way (especially the prices) but, if you go in expecting to receive that fine dining service, you're going to have a sour experience. For us, it started off going in and being seated in the wine room (cool so far) and told they hadn't seated anyone in there in 4 or 5 hours. 'Probably shouldn't have told us that because there was food on the floor and crumbs on our seats and table. So, no one's cleaned it in a while either. Being a wine lover, I was excited to sit in the wine room. Its laid out nicely and is lined with racks and bottles all around. But, when you get up and look closely at the bottles, you realize there are a few decent wines presented but they're displayed with kinda bottom shelf grocery wines. So, its kind of a ruse: I'm not sure they're serious about the wine. We had a few glasses of wine while we were perusing the menu but it was served in heavy goblets - completely nonfunctional. How can you swirl and smell the wine if you can't move the glass? The food was ok but I think i could write a whole essay about it (which, if you're still here at this point you don't want to read about it). Finally, in lieu of dinner (for various reasons) we ordered dessert (don't tell me I don;'t know how to live). Fifteen minutes later we were still waiting for it and they weren't busy! We finally gave up paid our bill and left. I think fine dining is dead in Lewiston. This was the only restaurant I would recommend to people - the last of a few. I can't anymore. Get used to steak bites and burgers and being greeted with "hey guys" and asked repeatedly "you still working on that" because, apparently , that's all anyone here...
Read moreI am at a loss for words. Every time I eat here I experience a whole new level of mind blown. This time I was at a birthday party. We all had something different. I had the cedar plank salmon. It was cooked so perfectly. The very outside was a super thin crisp.. Barely.. The inside was Perfect! It had some huckleberries on top. Very fresh and tangy. There was lavender.. It came with a very nice rice.. I could sense lavender.. Aromatic and beautiful and also a lovely serving of delicious vegetables that featured fancy zucchini slices. I couldn't stand to leave a bite and it was probably a bit too much.. I only know because I eat really slowly so I had plenty of to notice.. I was Blessed with good company so I held on to my plate so I could finish it with my bite every 10 minutes plan. Other people at the table had things like some kind of meat hanging.. Yes, a string of beef chunks suspended from a hook over a plate with a pretty green dipping something.. I saw a plate of chicken that looked fit for royalty and smelled really nice. If I hadn't been so enthralled by my own dish I'd have pulled the old " Hey! What on Earth is That?" and swiped a piece. 😉 This place never disappoints. They have amazing and valuable lunches and a very nice drink menu. Our server was out of this world.. All the service here is and they have easy parking and spacious and clean restrooms that are disability friendly. Will Definitely be coming here more. The selection is limited if you are vegetarian. They have a few gorgeous salads and if you eat fish you have salmon and a white fish or 2. You will be delighted with the choices available I am...
Read moreMy mom's favorite restaurant in town. Very 1990s "higher"-end dining, in both decor and service. Reminds me of the America we had hope and disposable income in; the type of spot you were taken as a 90s kid to celebrate your Grandparents' anniversary. Padded booths, floral wallpaper, white table cloths, those little plastic shot glasses of coffee creamer... nostalgia comes in waves as the dim, bulbous brass fixtures and occasionally mirrored walls reflect the overdressed patrons (and just as many underdressed, this is Idaho afterall), their squirmy uncomfortable children, and all manner of Country Manor themed decor... the menu is a bit more modern, Gluten-free is widely available, and the kitchen tries interesting combos of flavors and ingredients in a regularly revolving/seasonal menu. Every item sounds just a bit more delicious than it ends up being, but I'm never unhappy! Waitstaff are the best. Always super attentive, friendly, quick, accommodating. No reservations needed normally but it can get crowded. Outdoor seating always seems like a good idea, but it's too noisy and feels very close to the road. Parking is ample. Have your maps on when driving there, turn-in is easier to miss than a toothpick in a timber pile! All-in-all I easily see why it is my elderly mother's restaurant...
