My husband likes Mariscos because they carry food items that you can't find (at least can't kind find made in an authentic version) at other restaurants. In my opinion the food is subpar at best. The nachos aren't bad, but they are not good either. The fried shrimp is incredibly salty. We've been there three times and have not had decent service yet. The 2nd time we went there it took a very long time for the waitress to take our drink orders. The waitress who served us (if you want to call it that) on our most recent visit to this restaurant was just as unpleasant as the waitress who served us the last time we were there.
The waitress asked for our drink order. I said 'Coke please'. She corrected me in Spanish. It's 'Coca' in Espanol. She clearly understood me, but still felt the desire to correct me. She also pretended she had no clue what I said when I said 'please'. Even if you don't speak English, you should know basic terms such as 'please' and 'thank you'. My Spanish is pretty bad, but I still know what 'por favor' and 'gracias' mean. If the staff at Mariscos really want to correct grammar, they should correct the menu. The menu's English is incorrect. They have 'stile' written where it should be 'style'. You would also think that a place that has a menu in both English and Spanish would be willing to serve customers of both languages, but they make it quite clear that your business is not really wanted if you don't speak Spanish fluently. As with the previous waitresses, the waitress avoided speaking with me after discovering that I was going to speak in English. She spoke only to my husband and child, who do speak Spanish fluently, after the initial drink order.
I had my child request lemons for me (in Spanish) for my food. I do not like limes, which is what came with the food. He was given a cup of limes. He told the waitress (different waitress because our waitress had vanished) that he needed lemons, not limes. The waitress argued with him and told him that the GREEN fruit in front of him was lemon. I ate my terribly salty shrimp without any lemon. The tartar sauce tasted like mayonnaise with nothing else in it. When our waitress did reappear toward the end of the meal my husband requested lemons. The waitress brought out YELLOW fruit that we all know of as lemon. By that point I had already finished my meal, but it did prove that they did in fact have lemons.
I like authentic Mexican food, but there's a place right next door to Mariscos that serves better authentic Mexican food. The place next door has staff that will respect me and speak to me even if I'm not Hispanic and even if I don't speak fluent Spanish. There are also numerous other authentic Mexican restaurants in the DFW area. Now, if only I can find one that carries the one cocktail that my husband likes, we'll...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming here for the past 6 months. We usually stop by on the weekends. The first time we tried it was so amazing we decided to make it one of our family weekend stops. Unfortunately, we will not be returning, ever.
I'm not a fan of the lack of professionalism in this establishment. We were a party of 5 and immediately was told "just pick whatever table you want" which off the bat, bothered me. This could've been said a million different ways.
We looked for a table, but none had enough seats, and we were left standing around trying to figure it out. The only table with enough chairs was dirty and after standing for a while, a lady came and said she would wipe it down. She did but very poorly.
The food this time around was not great, it was heavily busy unlike any other time we've come but this experience felt like a waste of time and money on mediocre service and food.
There was karaoke going on which I get it, it's fun however the music is so loud you can barely hear your own thoughts.
Our server was not good, she was only attentive at the end when most of the tables were cleared. When we actually needed assistance. There was nobody to help.
Another annoying thing is the bad habit of bringing out food for some people in the party instead of everyone's food all together. My family is particular on this because none of us like to eat before the rest simply because it's not in good manners.
At the end, the check didn't come, I had to go up to the front to pay which 3 employees were sitting on a bench next to check out. One got up and stood to the left of me just watching while the other got the check. The check was $157 but she rung up $161. She didn't say anything and having the other employee so close watching pissed me off. So I paid, left no tip and got out. Seems like personal space is too much to ask for. I would've tipped if the service and food were good but with the asinine employees and mediocre food the place was...
Read moreWe came here for Karaoke on a Saturday night for a birthday at the request of the birthday boy. The singing and the water were neck and neck with each other in regards to ok quality. Everything else was very much lacking. The margarita on the rocks that were first ordered were way watered down to the point that even after a complimentary shot of tequila they were all mix and no bang. The cranberry vodka that was also ordered was all cranberry and no vodka. When it got taken to the bar to bring up the issue it was dismissed and brought back to the table. The micheladas were ok but were served in a huge glass made for at the very minimum 2 beers. After that botched round of drinks we tried some food. It was at this point that the "Mariscos" in the name should be removed for such a terrible attempt. I will let the the picture mostly speak for itself. It was basically thawed frozen shrimp that you can buy at any supermarket. The shredded stuff was supposedly king crab but it really looked like albacore tuna. It all lacked taste to put it lightly. If anything, come for the karaoke and preflight in the parking lot....
