Ah, yes. Pho. Everyone’s favorite foreign soup. For many pho enthusiasts, you know what to expect. It’s a very basic dish where you need to actively try to mess it up. With that said, the Pho is fine. Now, the noodles, I do have an issue with - they were as if the noodles were made in the morning, then separated and left out as balls of noodles, simply to be put in the bowls allowing the hot broth to warm it up.aside from that, for an establishment with 4 locations, you would think they would include images or a description of the different types of meats you can add in for those who have never had Pho before. My main concern is it’s lack of atmosphere. In many Pho restaurants you will find booths that let the patrons enjoy their meals with friends in a more private environment. Here, you will be joined by roaming children, awkward music playing from small speakers with blue lights, 4 or 5 separate servers that forget orders, and plastic bowls. With the odd Hawaiian decorations, it’s also something to feel uncomfortable about. Prepare to be ignored for 5 min when you walk in, and if you’re lucky, another 10 when you finally get your seat. Sadly this is my second visit to this establishment, where in my first visit, I was ignored for much longer. I ended up leaving, giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are simply busy, and returned an hour later. It was then that I was able to put in a to-go order. They gave me enough soup for 2 people, and snowball-esk looking noodles prepared for 4 of which started to mend together. I ended up eating them in such a way - like a giant dumpling. In addition, 3 small pieces of shaved brisket was included. In summation, the order was simply wrongly portioned and this should be hurting their bottom line, or at the least, confusing the customer as it did me.
If you can get past the environment, and the born yesterday staff, then this will probably be a worth while experience since the Pho itself is decent. If this establishment cares to read this review, I would also strongly suggest you add in Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It is a proud staple in many Pho restaurants. And for those of you who know what it is, you can walk down willows to the Vietnamese store and buy the ingredients yourself. You’re welcome 😉
I have to bring to your attention, that if you are looking for a very nice bowl of Pho, Sawatdee Thai Food on Great Mills will be a better experience for you. It is a smaller setting with fewer staff that gets the job done. They have long been a staple in the community and gets very busy regularly. They have a greater selection of foods and drinks a place that will satisfy all who want to eat.
I will happily edit my review of this business starts to be more mindful of its environment and the way they choose to...
Read moreThe place looked clean with decent food. We ordered the garlic wing appetizer, a make your own pho and the special vermicelli. The appetizer came out first just that and we didn't get other plate to share. My husband had pho and said it was good but the bowl seemed big from the big mouth but lacked practicality in serving more food rather than a wide place for server to hold on to serve. The pho had very little noodle and some meat. For a pho specialized place I have been before, you get to pick the size from small to large and even extra large for pho order and many more variations than the one they give you. I tasted the broth and it was kind of blanch with really lots of oil.
My special vermicelli came out with the fish sauce in a plastic to go container on top of the vermicelli in the bowl and with the order ticket aside. The server took it and assumed it was ok to put the ticket on top of my vermicelli in the first place. Add to that my vegetables and pickles all put together on the side, which I would have appreciated not to. Why couldn't they have put it on separate dish? And why sprout as vegetables for vermicelli? It's pathetic. I would have wanted more herbs like basil, mint, daisy crown or just thinly sliced cabbage or lettuce instead in the vegetable mix. And maybe this is a brand new place, they have no knowledge of how to organize their side condiments for a Vietnamese place, but there wasn't a small section on table, where you can get extra stuff to add to your pho or vermicelli or any dish such as: regular fish sauce, soy sauce, sour chili paste and often you can get a side small dish to make your own sauce in addition to the spoon and chopstick holder. They only gave you some sriracha chili sauce and sweet soy sauce.
Thirdly, the waitress came and gave us the bill and impatiently waited for us to decide who’s paying while rushing me to my card out to pay. Another girl came back with the receipts but only from my credit cards and clearly tried to give me a lecture one for them to keep and one for me like it’s my first time going to a restaurant. And the original receipt wasn’t there for me to see what each item cost was. I never had time to even look at the original bill when the one giving me the bill didn’t give me anytime to look at it. Very inexperienced servers and waitresses. I had better food and way better service elsewhere. I originally didn’t want to come, but rather a takeout. However, no one ever answered or the line is always busy. Don't think I ever want...
Read moreHad family come to town and wanted some vietnamese food. It would take too long to go to VA so we went to the only local place after hearing it was good. Let me tell you, it was anything but good.
We walked in with 6 people and were just pointed in a direction to grab a table. Instead of the side with tables big enough for six, we had to go where the small tables were and pull them together ourself. Then the host/server came with menus and silverware for five. We asked for one more and he said we have enough, which obviously we didn't. Since we just sat down we didn't know what we want yet so he left and didn't come back. We had to finally go find him after 10 minutes waiting. We finally ordered and didn't see him again until food was brought out. Once it came out and he asked if we needed anything, he left again while we ate and never returned to see if we need refills. Lot of us sat with empty glasses while eating until long after we finished.
When food came out, all the pho bowls were luke warm. Considering how long it took it should have been hot. Only one plate of pho fixings were brought and we had to ask for more for the others. Once we tried the pho it was just barely average tasting. Better than waldorf location but still not great.
The Thai shrimp curry really surprised me. The curry sauce was poured on top and not mixed so it didn't look like much. After mixing it it seemed adequate but I would have liked a little more especially since the curry tasted good. There was a good amount of meat as well.
The Asian chicken salad was OK, but the chicken was burnt on the edges and was dry. Definitely disappointing in this. Couldn't return it since waiter disappeared til everyone was long done.
Over all an extremely disappointing experience. Will suck it up amd make the drive to VA next time, even if it means waiting...
