I've ordered take-out from Coach's in Lexington a handful of times. The service hasn't been the best possible, but it's been adequate. The most recent time, I arrived 30 minutes after the order was phoned in, exactly when the order taker said to be there.
I was directed to the bar to pick up my order. I found an empty place and stood, waiting to get the bartender's attention. I explained that I was there to pick up an order. The bartender said that she would let someone know. For the next 20 minutes, I stood, and finally sat, while waiting for my order. Twice within that time frame, the bartender told me that someone would be with me soon. I commented to the bartender that she had not even asked me my name to locate the order. I asked if I could at least pay for my order. She explained that the order was under someone else, and that she could neither ring me up nor handle my order.
At roughly the 15 minutes mark, I noticed that a to-go bag of food had been brought out and placed on the other side of the bar. At roughly the 20 minute mark, a gentlemen walked out of the kitchen, picked up the food, and brought it over to me. He apologized for the delay, and said that would provide a discount on the order. I thanked him for doing so and gave him my credit card to pay. When I received the receipt back, no discount was shown. I later verified via their online menu that I had indeed paid full price for the inconvenience of ordering to-go; no discount applied.
While I take no issue with Coach's food, I would caution anyone looking for a restaurant-style experience to be prepared when dining at Coach's; the service is not up to the task. There seems to be no clear and concise process to handle call-in/to-go orders. At the end of the day, Coach's is a BAR, not a restaurant, and the level of service provided reflects this. I can see that many of my fellow reviewers concur with...
Read moreExtra star for good food. Otherwise it would be less than 3 stars. The onion rings are distinctive and delicious. My burger, and my wife’s salad, were excellent. I didn’t mention which burger, or which salad, because there is enough excellent variety to do yer thang. Everybody got a delicious meal. The service, on the other hand, was unsatisfactory. This is a sports bar. When 3 people have to wait more than 5 minutes for a draft beer and a bottled beer, and over 30 minutes for a mixed drink, that is a fail! When people who ordered their drinks 10 minutes after we did are enjoying, but we are waiting, that is unsat. I don’t care for the whole sports bar thing, but I will enjoy it IF you do it right. I will say that the food arrived in relatively timely manner, so maybe you need to close the bar and be a FAMILY restaurant. Just kidding. To break down the service issues: When I come in with an odd number of people, I don’t want to hear excuses about how you don’t have a table for that number. Forcing me to choose between either sitting for an indefinite period, or seating people uncomfortably at a too small table, is not acceptable. I don’t care what you do, just DO IT. When the place is not full there is NO excuse for that. The hostess needs to be schooled, and motivated. The problem I sensed with the service was disorganization. The wait staff were bustling about, but they seemed to be spinning their wheels. There was a lot of cleaning going on and I will say this, the place is spotless. I felt confident putting the food in my mouth. Good job on that. It just seemed that they were working hard and not getting it done. Disorganization will kill your people. Having said this, I may come back just to try more of the menu. I just won’’t come with a party, and I will come at al slowww time, and I will...
Read moreWe came in to Lexington to visit with family. Decided to eat locally and give our business to a restaurant in Lexington. We chose Coach's because we were assured that they could handle our group of 20. Before I get to the bad...I will give our waitress credit for doing the best she could despite the poor management. Our waitress had only been there 4 days and was left to handle such a large group without any help. Not even help preparing drink orders, let alone food orders. We were told that 2 waitresses would be assigned to our table. After waiting approximately 30-45 mins, our drinks finally came out. Some were already watered down due to our waitress trying to get everyone a drink at the same time. Several people ordered appetizers that NEVER arrived or arrived after meals. Once we finally got food orders coming out almost 1-1/2 hours later, the food was cold and just not good. My Ribeye steak was so cold that the butter/oil had solidified around it. My "steamed" broccoli was a combination of either too hard or too mushy and cold. Salads and appetizers came after the main courses were served. We asked to speak with the manager...she refused to come out of wherever she was hiding. She decided to give 20 people their food free rather than come out and offer an apology for the poor management of our party. The food was free, but not edible. No one in our party was hostile, therefore what was she afraid of. Piss poor management all around. We did tip our waitress generously because they really did her wrong. She may need that job, but with that type of management...I would have told Coach's...
