Review I wrote for my blog:
Me and my boyfriend were looking for an interesting place to visit a couple of weekends ago. Somewhere that we would like as well as was easy on our tight budget and friendly to all our interests. Since neither of us drink and we really aren’t social (he has never even been to a bar!) then the large Lexington Distillery District area was not something we had considered.
However, Michael looked up the highest rated local ice cream place on Google and it lead us to Crank & Boom (See next post). We had never been so we decided to check it out. Before we walked in the door though, we noticed the giant new Goodfellas Distillery a few doors down and went exploring before Ice Cream. Best choice ever!
Goodfellas is a regional pizzeria that I have heard great things about, but had never been. it is known for its New York style pizza and relaxed, bar-like atmosphere.
Walking into this place alone was overwhelming in the best way. Very industrial decor, with two floors, including a spiral staircase around the indoor silo. A huge bar and an outdoor patio with lots of seating indoors makes for a great gathering spot after a local event.
There is a billiards lounge upstairs that me and my boyfriend played two rounds in (he won both games) and the pizza slices are HUGE for a great price - I got a slice of pepperoni and a coke for about $6 at lunchtime.
The staff is pleasant and helpful - my total lack of knowledge for sports was highlighted when an employee came upstairs and took my pool stick from me to my dismay - but then put a new cap thing on the end so that I could actually shoot pool. when he handed it back to me, he smiled and told me I should be able to beat Michael now and that he hadn't realized we were playing or he would have come up to fix it sooner.
The entire place is covered in references to the famous Goodfella movie, which Michael was ecstatic about. We will for sure be going back here in the future. Early lunch time was a great time and very empty, but I hear it is CRAZY packed later in the evening. Ive included a bunch of photos that I took while...
Read more(Edit after response, added star for contacting and apologizing for poor visit. They worked with me to solve my issues) We visited tonight, Tuesday, October 8th around 7:15 pm. The restaurant was mildly busy, about 10 tables inside being used and a few more outside. My family and I, 6 adults 2 children, came in and waited in line to order. The pizza looked fantastic but I wanted to try a calzone. We ordered 5 slices, a sub, a salad, 1 calzone, and 1 calzone with no bread(diet restriction on carbs I guess). The slices were warmed up in the oven for about 45 seconds to freshen them up, the salad was handed to us, and we were told it would be about 10 minutes for the other items. At 7:45, we went to the counter and my calzone was just sitting there and my sisters breadless one wasn't up, either was the sub for her 4 year old daughter. The staff proceeded to argue with her that it had been less than 10 minutes since we ordered. We noticed then that they were just putting the sub together! They then brought the sub and breadless calzone out. The calzone had no cheese on it, it was all meat. So she had to go back and request that they put the cheese on it. It originally came out in a bowl, but the 2nd time it was just slapped on a serving tray with nothing under it. The description of the calzone notes it has 2 cheeses, mozzarella and ricotta. Both mine and my sisters had no ricotta cheese on them. To go with that, the bread on my calzone was baked on the exterior but completely raw dough on the inside. I didn't eat half of it. I typically would have spoke up for something like this but the horrible way we had been treated to begin with made me just decide that I will not be returning to this establishment again. I'm not sure who was working tonight, but they completely forgot that the customer(especially ones who just spent well over $90 on a few slices of pizza and a sub) is always right. This was completely inexcusable. I do hope Eric Boggs reads these and figures out a solution to his apparent staffing issues. (pictures taken after we...
Read moreOverall this place is solid. The Pizza is good and just absolutely monstrous in size (22"). When you walk in you first get to see a very cool inside with multi level seating including lots of unique areas and ways to sit to enjoy your meal. There is also a beautiful patio outside with a few fires to enjoy and sit around plus games to play. This atmosphere helps make this a great destination. You walk up to the counter and place your order. While no one was rude or unkind during this process it wasn't very personal either. I even tried making some small talk, asked about any recommendations and received very little in return other than a focus on taking the order. We got our number and then started the search for a place to sit. I will warn you this is tricky. This was at 7:30p on a random Wednesday night and we struggled to find a seat for 4. After locating a 2 top I just stay focused on looking for an opportunity to switch to a 4 top. Fortunately after about 10m and a little focus and good timing we accomplished it. Food makes it out and gets set down and that is it as far as service goes. You get your own drinks and refills you clear your own table before and after (assuming you rush to a table as the group in front of you leaves). I will add that the two guys behind the Bar were working at a much higher level of interaction so that might be the place to sit! Now the important part was the pizza. Overall it was cooked well and as I stated earlier, massive in size. Flavor was good enough to come back for. I also ordered the buffalo chicken breadsticks and those were fantastic. The environment alone is worth the trip and as long as you know what you are in for can be a great place...
