When we heard there was a restaurant serving southern Indian cuisine coming to Lexington, we were very excited to try it for our first time. Today we went and it is a 10/10. The service was amazing; one of chefs came out and asked us how familiar we were and recommended some dishes to us for our first visit. I had done a little bit of research on South Indian cuisine, but it was really nice for her to take the time to explain the dishes to us. We ended up ordered 3 menu items:
Chicken 65
For our appetizer we had fried and spiced chicken. Frankly some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. It was flavorful but not too spicy (we got mild). I want to eat it again but with naan or biryani next time.
Masala Dosa
Dosa is a staple of southern Indian cruise and is a thin savory pancake with several varieties that is typically dipped in a chutney or sauce. We got masala which had curried potatoes inside. It came with 3 dips, 1 tomato-based that was a little spicy, a more mild peanut based, and Sambar which is a lentil based stew in a tamarind both. It was so savory and delicious, I can’t decide my favorite dip, it’s a toss up between the spicy tomato and the sambar.
Vijayawada chicken biryani
I always love me some biryani. The aromatic rice dish always scratches a specific itch for me. We took the chefs recommendation to try this biryani and she did not lead us astray. It was seasoned well and had good flavors without being too spicy again (we also got mild again). It came with a yogurt sauce (Raita) and a spicy tomato rasam. Both were quite good, but I really loved the yogurt sauce.
We will definitely be back and looking forward to trying more new...
Read moreI normally do not write any reviews but compelled to write this one. We have been patrons of Hyderabad house in Cincinnati and Louisville for the past few years and were really excited when we came to know we would be getting our own. By this point, we have gotten takeout from this place 3 times, dined in once and ordered for a party once which I believe is good enough attempts and time to judge this place
The Good: The taste is good but not on par with the one in Louisville or Cincinnati
The Bad: The portions are small for the price you pay. The rice portion that comes with the entrees are laughably small. If you wanted to have an entrée, make sure you order some bread with it as the rice that comes with it would only serve couple of spoons.
The Ugly: Everything in this restaurant is plastic The dishes the food is served - Plastic The silverware that comes with dishes - Plastic The plates used to serve the food - Plastic
I am not talking about takeout. This is in dine in as well
The plastic is also cheap and this totally ruins the dine in experience for me. I am not being environmentally conscious here (Though, I need to), serving piping hot food in plastic is harmful to your health. Everything about the dine in experience has felt cheap to me. The same place in Louisville and Cincinnati doesn't serve everything in plastic for dine in. So, I am not sure what the owners had in mind to make this decision.
Would I try this place again?
Having said all this, I would get takeout from this place (I would never dine in again) as this is only place in Lexington that serves decent authentic...
Read moreI went into this restaurant a few weeks ago because it is close to where I live and as a blind woman I was interested in trying a new restaurant close enough to walk there and back. Firstly, the service was above and beyond excellent. The servers talked me through the menu, suggesting some dishes that fit what I was looking for. The servers never made me feel awkward or a burden because of my disabilities. She explained where everything was and took extra time to explain how the food is traditionally served.
But how was the food? The biryani dish I got was leaps and bounds the best biryani I ever had. The curry, too, was packed with flavor and a departure from many other indian restaurants I have been to. This curry was in a thinner sauce than what I am used to but that made it a lighter dish to accompany the heavier biryani. The raita was very clearly homemade as it had more of the tangy whey flavor than store bought yogurt. The only suggestion I would have would be to have maybe a tiny bit less salt in the biryani and include some soft surfaces or hangings to dampen the noise level in the restaurant. The only other suggestion I have is to invest in some reusable dishes and cutlery as the current way wastes a lot of plastic unnecessarily.
I will absolutely be...
