We stopped here on our way back from Carter Caves to NKY for a late lunch. Menu is small, tidy and authentic. Lots of seafood which is their specialty according to our friendly helpful waitress. We had the empanadas. They are soooo good. Sometimes you encounter a food that just fills you up just right, where you have reached maximum satisfaction. These did that. I am thinking about planning a trip to Lexington just to eat these again. We also had a steak, shrimp plate. Everything was fresh including the chips and salsa (mild and a medium Verde). It's a little pricey, but I'm thinking about driving three hours roundtrip to eat there again. I do consider myself a foodie. The dining area is on the small, but intimate side and nicely done with all new tables and chairs and a pretty wood and ceramic tile inlaid floor.
Now, the food! The food was delicious. I had the chimichanga, de pollo lunch. It consisted of a very tasty chimichanga, a spicy pico de gallo sauce and tortilla chips, sour cream and guacamole sauces on the side, a good serving of Mexican rice, and refried beans.
I urge anyone who likes good Mexican fare and a more subdued atmosphere to try La Cabana. I'd really like to see this...
