Tried this spot out for New Years Eve. Overall, a nice little place! I'm not a beer person but I did sample one of their beers and I actually liked it so I would imagine they have some good ones and they did have a wide selection.
There are two buildings, one only serves beer, one also has bourbon and a few other spirits.
Food...the pizza...was a bit overpriced in my opinion. $5 a slice and the slices weren't that big. The pizza guy did recognize how small these portions were and gave us one extra when some fresh pizzas came out but still seems pricey for a slice. A whole pizza would be $40 at this rate and we were told they don't sell the full pizza. (I think this was for NYE party only.) Quality was okay, nothing wrong with it but nothing to write home about. We saw people with boxes of pizza later which made us wonder if they were able to get a whole pie. 🤔
The party was advertised for champagne upon entry and at midnight. We did get our midnight toast but never got the entry glass. We were about 10 minutes early for the scheduled party time and we were told at the door of one building that the other was open. There were tents set up in between the buildings we could have sat in but we wanted to go ahead and get a drink so we tried the other building. As we opened the door, a guy outside said this building was closed but the other building (were we just came from) was open. We tried going in another door for the other building but we're stopped again and told to go .....to the other building. 🤦♀️
So this time we just asked if there was anywhere we could get a drink and after some employees yelling around to get an answer, we were told they were letting people in at the front of this building now. Again, we WERE about 10 minutes early so, it is what it is and at least they started letting us in. No champagne was ever out at this building upon check in but I did see it later at the check-in at the second building. I never asked but I assume they would have given it to me if I told them I never got it.
The check in process was a little slow, little disorganized, the ticket had a QR code but they were manually checking people in on paper which slowed things down. There was a raffle advertised but I never saw anything about it. Never got a ticket, never saw any prizes, or a time for a drawing. Not sure what happened there. (Edit: Apparently my boyfriend says they did draw for the raffle while I was in the bathroom. However, he asked if we needed to be in the other building since we checked in there and nobody knew for sure.)
Once we got in, the bar with bourbon had very little seating, except for a section that said staff only (and my boyfriend said they were selling a limited number of VIP passes so I think this was actually a VIP area with bottle service). I think this was supposed to be the more "dance" building. The DJ was a bit underwhelming though, I never saw a dance floor really start, mostly people just standing around and talking together in groups. (My pics of the two bars are from the very start of the party - it did fill up quite a bit more later!)
The other building had more seating and tables to stand at and this DJ was better. He did a little more rock/funk music and seemed to be a bit more experienced. We spent most of our time here but had to walk to the other bar to get drinks.
The bathrooms were clean, the staff was friendly despite nobody seemed to know what was going on in the beginning, but I feel like thats not their fault.
I think this would be a good place to chill in general (other than the NYE party), especially in the summer, plenty of outdoor seating. I would probably come back for NYE despite the few snags. It looked like the best thing going on in Lexington (without breaking the bank $30 a couple, $20 a single) and we ended up...
Read moreA good place in a great location, missing a key element. When you serve alcohol you should also encourage designated drivers.
Mirror Twin does not sell cold soda and overcharges for non-alcoholic beverages. For example, Pivot nearby charges $1 for an Ale 8, with an Ale 8 zero option and other soda, Mirror Twin charges $2 for a warm Ale 8. Maybe it is temporary, but soda is served from a cooler filled with ice behind the bar. If there are more than a couple patrons then the Ale 8 is served from wooden shelves next to the cooler filled with cans of cold take out beer.
If anyone drinks too much the server is always vulnerable. After a law suit just the encouragement associated with pricing and service for non-alcoholic beverages makes it clear in my mind that the owners are doing their best. Not offering a cold soda at a subsidized price sends the wrong signal to the designated driver.
Like everyone the overworked and undertrained staff struggle to keep up. Having to look around for a cold Ale 8 is one more thing on their plate. The owners need to support their servers and their patrons. A large cooler of low cost sugared and sugarless soft drinks should be a part of any business associated with alcohol sales, both Mirror Twin and...
Read moreMirror Twin Brewing and Rolling Oven are a perfect pairing! This destination is a must-visit! Fabulous beers and delicious wood-fired pizza made for a perfect meal. A very friendly waitress answered our questions and helped us with our beer selections. We enjoyed a flight featuring a variety of sours, stouts, and pilsners—French Toast was the unanimous favorite at our table!
After choosing our beers, we made our way down the counter to order food, starting with the whipped feta appetizer—tangy, drizzled with honey, and spread over crisp crostini—absolute heaven! The Fat Sticks, a meaty wood-fired pizza with a marinara dipping sauce, were a hit, and the loaded potato pizza had the perfect balance of crispy crust, soft potatoes, and bold flavors.
Today, it was the perfect cozy retreat from the relentless rain, but we can’t wait to come back on a sunny day to enjoy the amazing patio with a cold beer in hand. Highly recommend!
