WOW!!! SO MUCH FOOD FOR A GREAT REASONABLE PRICE!!! AND THE TASTE, IT WOULD MAKE MY GRANDPARENTS AND PARENTS REALLY PROUD; THE TASTE AND TRUE HOME COOKING🍳 JUST LIKE BACK HOME!!! NO WONDER THEY MADE "OUR STATE" MAGAZINE!!! IN BUSINESS SINCE MAY OF 1925, AND FAMILY OWENED, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU STOPPED AND DEFINITELY WANT TO RETURN AGAIN AND AGAIN!!! My wife had the True Southern Downhome cooked fried chicken, chicken leg and two theighs; BIG PIECES!!! You get a choice between white or dark meat! All plates come with 2 homemade sides! Salads are really big and VERY FRESH DAILY! NO LEFTOVERS HERE, UNLESS TAKE HOME,...LOL!!! I had TRUE country styled steak, back just like grandma made!!! Loaded with gravy! Broccoli 🥦 cheese casserole, (YES, LAWD HOMEMADE)!!! Cream potatoes loaded with gravy, and a 3rd side gets your beverage free! It was coleslaw, NOTHING SHORT OF ABSOLUTELY PERFECT IN EVERY WAY! ALL STAFF WENT AROUND TO EVERY TABLE CHECKING FOR 💯% SATISFACTION, GUARANTEED!!! THEY ALWAYS KEPT OUR DRINKS FILLED!!! AGAIN, EVERYTHING IS HOMEMADE, RIGHT DOWN TO THEIR HUGE CORNBREAD ROLL, OR TEXAS TOAST!!! THEY EVEN SELL WHOLE 🐔 CHICKENS,.....COOKED OF COURSE!!!! AND, THAT'S A GREAT THING,...lol!!! My wife, one of her sides was a HUGE SWEET POTATO w/cinnamon and butter on the side!!! If you don't take the time to stop and eat, your parents and likely grandparents, ESPECIALLY will haunt you!!! Trust me, you'll DEFINITELY be Glad you did!!! Be prepared for leftovers to go...

Several pans of food (ham, mac-n-cheese, scalloped potatoes, chicken pot pie and banana pudding) were purchased for my cousin's graduation. Can I tell you that everything tasted as if it came straight from a can??!!! The ham for sure was a canned ham and they simply sliced it, put it in a pan and poured a can of crushed pineapples on top; it was dry but tasted okay considering. The banana pudding was instant with what appeared to be 2 boxes of cookies poured into it and maybe a couple of cut up bananas. I love me a good vanilla wafer cookie. But that watery pudding, they could have kept. The Mac n cheese, came straight out of the box with the cheese sauce. It wasn't even baked not one time and didn't even have one dot of any seasoning nor black pepper. That chicken pie was full of chicken but dry chicken and just the crust. The scalloped potatoes tasted pretty good. A little dry but at least it had some flavor. I felt bad for my family purchasing the food as I'm sure it wasn't cheap. But from what several of us tasted, we're puzzled as to how they could call this place southern anything. Now my family that lives in the area may have liked it. But those of us who traveled hours to the area for the graduation, what we had was not authentic southern style meal. I know the other reviews were good but this for sure is my honest opinion. Maybe we should have went to the actual restaurant to eat. But I do wish I had...

I am a diners and dive kind of guy. I have a magic formula for my diners and dives it is simple as the three letter C's of diners and dives. I give this place all three of them which is cleanliness, cost effectiveness, and awesome customer service. I enjoyed every minute in this restaurant. I like the food it was ample portions. I also love that it wasn't too salty or over seasoned on anything. I loved all of their vegetables just like Grandma used to make. I really enjoyed their peach cobbler it was delicious. I pray this place will stay going another 50 or more years. I hope the daughters, sons, nieces, and nephews, cousins or friends whoever can keep this place rolling out this great country food. I love that it used to be a train depot in Lexington. Makes the atmosphere great here. Thank you for honoring the military and giving me a discount. I served honorably 20 years with the last seven being very hard years being a Navy Devil Doc with the United States Marine Corps. I will take a comment from the Marine Corps you are Semper Fi! I can see why you stay busy all the time this is a great diners and dive place! May you seek your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ daily. The world needs God now...

Today was my first time dining here. I was very pleasantly surprised to find a down home, country restaurant so close to home. We went around 1:30 and it was still quite full. The booths were filled with happy folks who seemed to be very comfortable there. There is a good selection of food from country, seafood, pasta, etc. They also offer daily specials displayed on the white boards. I had the Reuben sandwich combo and enjoyed it very much. Their sweet tea is perfect (if you know anything about sweet tea in the south) and the server very accommodating and kind. I learned as we were leaving that there is quite a history to this restaurant. The young lady on the register is the granddaughter of the second owner of this establishment that was begun in 1925!

I am from Lexington, born and raised. I have been eating from Southern Lunch years (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) before the original burned down. The chicken pie with gravy and creamed potatoes is one of my favorite. Yesterday, I was in town and purchased a chicken pie meal to bring back to Winston-Salem for my lunch today. The portion was great! Lots of gravy; perfect! The only thing was the gravy was extremely salty and I could not eat it. Every restaurant has a bad day ever, now and then and perhaps yesterday was one of theirs. STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES TOO DINE WHEN I AM IN TOWN!

First time here and the food was amazing! My friend and I had waited a while wasn’t able to get our lunch so we had to leave without eating! The staff there not only profusely apologized, they brought our food to our training and gave it to us for free!! They also gave us a 10$ coupon to use for future visits! Even though we waited 45 minutes they really made up for it!!! True Southern hospitably! Thank you guys so much and the food was delicious!!! Highly recommend!
