I was let in on a best kept secret in Lexington when visiting friends who own the Back-Yard Retreat Garden and gift shop on main street. They told me about a donut shop right up the street from them, I was shocked I have been going to Lexington for years and never knew this. So, off my friend and I went, on the corner was a shop with beautiful decorated windows, other than the Easter bunnies carrying donuts and a green 1940’s pickup truck filled with donuts you would never know it was a donut shop. The sign high above the windows reads RED and on the right hand side reads Red Donuts so small and inconspicuous most, like myself, have never seen it. As you walk in there in front of you is a modern counter with the most delicious display of home-made fresh donuts. They are the donuts I remembered as a child when they were made with top quality ingredients and the frosting was rich and thick. They are definitely the best donuts in NC. I was impressed with the jelly filled donuts, you pick out the donuts you would like to have filled and they hand fill them right on the spot, believe me they really fill them with a good amount. You have a choice of many good fresh fillings to choose from. You can sit in their relaxing and spacious living room area with internet service, light and airy with friendly customers. They also have a nice out of state clientele who call in orders, I was watching a order being packed that was being shipped to NY. Saro one of the owners always greets you with a warm smile and high energy ready to answer any questions as he carefully packs that special order of daily fresh made donuts. If you are in Lexington drop in for a treat or call and have a box shipped to you for an office meeting or a party either way your taste buds will be thanking you for this. Red Donut Shop 117 N Main Street Lexington NC 27292 Owners are David and Saro. Thank you for being a wonderful truly asset to the...
Read moreMy fiance & I are getting married in Lexington this October. We knew we wanted doughnuts catering for our dessert. Of course, we could have gone with a big corporation like Dunkin Doughnuts but we wanted a traditional hometown feels. After reading all the reviews about this place, we thought it was perfect. We had our entire selection picked out and ready to spend over $100 on doughnuts. I emailed the company first, this was over 4 months ago and no response. Then I went through their catering info sheet on their website. Filled everything out to the letter and still no response. That was over 3 months ago. The next step, we went to their location but it turns out they were moving. Unfortunately, we were only in town that day and I do not blame the company for an unlucky occurrence. My final step was to call them after they finally got their phones hooked up. I called and talked to an employee because the Owners were out of the office. She told me that the owners are not in the office often and that she would leave a detailed note so that when they came in they would give me a callback. That was two months ago & I still have received no call. We were so excited to try this place and it was going to make out wedding even better but now it appears it is not an option. It is BEYOND frustrating when you try every single avenue to reach a business and you plan to spend a decent amount of money and they can't give you the time of day to even email you back, let alone a phone call. I guess we will just have to move to Dunkin Doughnuts since we really don't know what to try with this business anymore. I hope the rest of you have more luck than we did but as far as catering goes it seems...
Read moreImmaculately clean with great cheerful customer service. Was over in Lexington and decided to finally go in after hearing and reading the great reviews. THEY ARE JUSTIFIED AND CONFIRMED. I told the lady at counter that I had never been in before and a customer that had just been served said "you are in for a treat". So I asked her for a recommendation and without hesitation she said the blueberry fritter. I love fritters but I would never have ordered blueberry [I'm an apple guy]. But I followed her recommend and got the blueberry one and a glazed cake. Oh my! The lady was right. They are fantastic. Many times you cant taste the fruit in said fritter but these blueberries were the star of the show. The glazed cake was awesome as well. Cake donuts tend to bed heavy and sometimes greasy but not here! Might have been the lightest cake donut I have ever tasted. The glaze was perfect and not overly sweet. It's a cool funky spot nicely decorated. We have some good donut places around here but this place is right at top.
Update: Popped in and picked up a couple donuts. I did not realize they filled their Long John's (they call them Bismarcks I believe). They also fill twists! I went with filled twist with vanilla creme and it was the best creme I...
