I've loved this place for 30 years. However, something frustrating has happened. A few years back, they added one of the iPad point of sales registers both inside the restaurant and in the drive-thru. It's one of those situations where the tablet automatically suggests a tip.
While I have no problem with tipping and like to be generous, I don't like to be guilted into a tip....while the person who gets the tip stares at you while making the decision about how much you're wanting to tip. Very tacky.
To make it worse, they don't actually bring food to you or do much of anything other than pick it up at the window, turnaround, walk 10 inches, and put it in front of the register. You have to pick it up and take it to your table yourself. You have to make the order at the counter yourself. I'm unsure what I'm tipping for. Am I tipping so that they hand me the food that I asked for? That's not really tippable. Don't even get refills without paying almost three bucks.
... But wait, there's more :-)
They actually try to guilt you into tipping them in the drive-thru. Yeah, the drive-thru. Am I being asked to tip because they put it in a bag to go for me? Am I tipping because it's fast (It's not)? Why in the world would I tip for low effort service drive-thru fast food?
The place has become unreasonably expensive as well. Today I had a burger, fries, and a Coke and it was almost $15. It's good but it ain't that good.... I could have steak for that....at a steakhouse. This is a college dive bar....and it's certainly not good enough that I'm going to pay the 25% suggested tip on the tablet at the register while the person who yells my name from across the room to get my attention stares at me to see if I tip. Not cool.
I have to admit, although I don't mind tipping and frequently tip well, I absolutely under no circumstances will tip in this kind of situation. If you make me feel guilty, stare at me to get your tip, and do nothing other than yell my name from across the room for me to come and get my own food, or hand it to me through a drive-thru window, you're not going to get a tip. Sorry not sorry.
This place is awesome and is a UK staple. I support this restaurant in every way but they really, really need to realize how...
Read moreA sluggish Sunday afternoon led Fat Man Reviews to Tally-Ho in Lexington, KY. Tally-Ho is a burger and breakfast joint that has been a Lexington tradition since 1971.
I had a Super-Ho with fries. The Super-Ho is a 1/2 pound double patty burger on a lightly toasted sesame seed bun. I had it with American cheese, lettuce tomato, onion and mayo. You can customize the burger with different cheeses(American, Swiss, habanero and cheddar) as well as lots of other toppings(ketchup, mustard, Ho sauce, onion, lettuce, pickle, bacon, fried egg, BBQ or ranch). The veggies were fresh, the burger was juicy, kinda greasy and cooked well. It's always a good sign when some grease drips off of the burger. The bun was fresh, held up well to the burger and the sandwich had a good burger to bun ratio. The fries were frozen from a bag, but they were cooked crispy and seasoned well. The meal was excellent, but I wish they melted the cheese on the burger before serving it. The burger could also use a bit of salt and pepper when cooking.
My fiancé tried a Tally-Ho burger with and cheese fries. She had lettuce, American cheese, tomato, pickle and mayo on hers. Again the burger was cooked well, the bun was fresh, and the fries were cooked and seasoned correctly. The cheese sauce tasted like a processed sauce that came from a can, not unlike a cheese whiz type of sauce. It had a slight creaminess to it and there is a good amount added to the fries.
Tally-Ho offers several breakfast items, including sandwiches, omelettes, pancakes and French toast. They also serve sandwiches along with their burgers. Bottled or canned beer is available, and they have some pinball and video games to enjoy. The Fat Man says that Tally-Ho is Fat...
Read moreI'm a courier and often wait up to 45min for orders regardless of size. Keep in mind this is after driving 15-20min to get there and waiting 10-15 min before I'm acknowledged and given them the order name and the service I'm driving for. This restaurant consistently fails to begin making anything until I've been there for at least 20min after they finally acknowledge me. Then when they realize they haven't started anything yet they blame me. If you order delivery from Tolly Ho, be prepared to wait 1.5hrs or more regardless of the time of day or size of your order. Your delivery orders from this restaurant may be further delayed because most drivers avoid them altogether once they realize that this is standard practice for this store.
To the staff at Tolly Ho, it is your job to make the food. Delivery drivers's jobs are to pick up food and deliver it to customers. We cannot make the food for you, you need to handle that on your own. We are independent contractors and I personally run multiple delivery services so I always announce which service I'm picking up for. The fact that this happens consistently over 15 months of delivery driving means that none of your excuses for blaming the drivers are valid. Make. The....
