My girlfriend and I were visiting Lexington and we were craving some food, we happened to see this restaurant by just driving around and we wanted to see if it was good, normally I don't go for mexican restaurants because their food is always bland and not very authentic to the original flavor from Mexico, but it seemed good and the reviews were glowing so we gave it a shot, she had 2 ribeye tacos and I had 3 steak tacos, and I was also craving some nachos so we shared some steak nachos with guacamole, the service was perfect no complaints there, the price was alright, I did enjoy their salsa bar, and when the food arrived I was very excited, the serving of steak looked perfect, it all seemed like it was going to be good, until I took the first bite, bland, I tried it with all of their salsas, but it still came out bland, maybe I was unlucky, and the chef just forgot to add some seasoning to the steak, but no, my girlfriend's food? Also bland, the nachos?, just bland, the meat had absolutely no seasoning, I was really disappointed, for a restaurant with 5 stars, I would've expected there to be more, but the steak had absolutely no flavor, it just tasted like cooked meat, no salt and pepper, just nothing, the guacamole was also a bit of a let down, it tasted good but also basic, like if it was store bought, nothing to write home about, overall I'd give them lower stars but their service was great and I liked the atmosphere a lot, I just wish the food had some flavor to it, I really do hope we were just unlucky and got served some food...
Read moreMy husband and I just ate at El Charro tonight, and WOW — hands down one of the best meals we’ve ever had!
We started with the chicharrones + guacamole, which was incredible, and then moved on to the specialty tacos. I got the shrimp tacos, and my husband got the quesabirria tacos. We tried every salsa offered, and every single one was a 10/10 — not a single miss. We like to really critique our food and know what’s actually good versus just overhyped, and El Charro absolutely nailed it.
When my husband tried my shrimp taco, he literally said, “That shrimp taco just changed my life.” 😂 He says it’s the best shrimp taco he’s ever had by a long shot. As for me, those birria tacos were also easily the best I’ve ever had.
The customer service was amazing from the moment we walked in. Everything was explained clearly so we didn’t feel lost trying something new. It’s a family-owned business, and the owner personally welcomed us, checked in during the meal, and genuinely cared about our experience. That alone made the visit so warm and memorable.
We were so blown away that we immediately called my in laws in the car afterward just to recommend it to them! We will DEFINITELY be back. I don’t usually write reviews, but El Charro more than deserves it. Highly,...
Read moreWe were in town from IN visiting family and experiencing the area. Mexican food was needed and this place did not disappoint! Let’s start with the food. This particular location is a walk up, order, sit and then they serve you, but this is NOT fast food. The food tastes amazing! The salsa bar is delicious. Salsa makes or breaks a place for me. This is the best salsa I have had in a long time. They have hot, mild, pineapple, among others. The tacos were hot, and delicious, an were the chips. All the meat, and toppings are fresh. We visited this place twice and they are consistent. Something lacking in most eating establishments today. The atmosphere is great. It was so hot outside, we thought they would have the air up so high we would freeze, but it was perfect! Now the service, we were greeted by a friendly cashier, who we later found out is the owner’s wife. The owner was serving. The second day the mother in law was there with them. There is nothing better than a family owned business. They have put the blood, sweat and tears into making this a place to come again and again. The nicest people you’ll ever meet. We will be sure to make this a regular when we are in town. My only wish is that they would come to Fort Wayne, IN and open a...
