Hanakawa Japanese Steak & Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Libertyville

This is the worst Hibachi restaurant I have ever been to… the food was good. The amount u get is ridiculous. I’ve been to a lot of hibachi restaurants and I’ve ALWAYS HAD LEFT OVERS TO TAKE HOME. This place we didn’t. Then my girl friend ordered the golden shrimp appetizer and before she ordered it she asked the waitress how many shrimp came with it and she said 6. The appetizer was 14 dollars. We get our food and and it came with TWO SHRIMP. We asked her if this was the golden shrimp appetizer and she said yes. Under the golden sauce there was TWO SHRIMP. Told her there was only 2 and she then said she meant they cut the two pieces of shrimp to make 6. So then I lift the golden sauce off the shrimp and there was 2 full pieces of shrimp. So u get 2 pieces of shrimp for 14 dollars. But she so sry, she so sry…. We’ll u being so sry doesn’t fix that u lied and that u charged us 7 dollar a piece for shrimp. They didn’t comp or take anything off the bill. Had to ask for a refill. Just all around horrible service. I have never left a review for anywhere I have ate at. That’s how bad the service was that I had to sign in and make a review for this place. It wouldnt let me give zero stars or I would have! Will never be back again and would recommend people not to go there. There was a cpl next to us that was complaining to the guy there about the service they got and the guy didn’t fix anything for them either. He so sry, he so sry is all he said to them. SO SRY DOESNT FIX THE TERRIBLE...

We got there early for our reservation but still ended up waiting past our reservation time. There is one hostess. Yes 1 hostess who does everything. So while I was waiting to get checked in for a second time, mind you I was standing at thr front register (and she sees me) because it ran past my reservation time....the hostess cleared & cleaned a table, mixed a drink, vacuumed the carpet, And did everything else but be a hostess and bring us to a table. I'd like to mention that while she was clearing the table, there were 2 other people cleaning it with her. The empty table that we thought was ours and turned out to actually be our table was empty the entire time! I stood there for good 12 minutes watching her do her thing Accept bring us to a table. You are a restaurant that opens at 5 PM and closes at 10 PMYou should get another hosteis it another hostess to seat people at a table. Hibachi dinner for a family of 5 Service was prompt and attentive The food was flavorful, but see below. The soup was just broth with a few rice noodles. The salads were pretty small. Prices were on the high-side (I know, Libertyville, but about 25% higher than similar places in the general area). Most places like this throw-in an appetizer (like a couple shrimp, or heavily seasoned broccoli) - no such extra.

Like most hibachi restaurants, your chef has a lot to do with the experience. Ours, did very little in the way of "entertainment", almost exuding an "I don't want to be here" vibe. He did a really poor job of timing - after the fried rice, he cooked ONLY the vegetables, which he then served. Then, instead of cooking the main entrees at the same time, he cooked the shrimp first (the entree that take the least amount of time to cook), then once done, cooked the chicken and steak entrees. By the time those were finished, we had eaten our rice and vegetables. The whole time, instead of starting to prepare something else (and moving off to the side to keep warm), he stood there and just watched us eat.
