I recently visited Mango Latino Grill, a cozy Venezuelan restaurant in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and had a pleasant experience overall. While the food was mostly enjoyable, there were some areas for improvement in terms of service and cleanliness. Here’s a breakdown of my visit.
Food (4/5): We ordered the Tequeños, chicken pastelitos, and a Pabellón. The Tequeños were fresh, perfectly fried, and had a nice crispiness to them. The portion size was ideal, and the nata that came with them was a delightful addition that paired well with the dish.
The chicken pastelitos were flavorful, though at $3.50 each, I found them to be a bit overpriced for what you get. They were fried well but didn’t quite justify the cost.
The Pabellón, a traditional Venezuelan dish, was as expected—solid but not remarkable. The shredded beef, black beans, rice, and plantains were all well-prepared but lacked a bit of flavor to really make it stand out.
Service (2/5): The service was casual, and while the staff was friendly, it’s more of a self-serve type of restaurant. You order at the table, but at times, you may need to get up and go to the bar for assistance. The laid-back approach works for a relaxed meal, but if you’re looking for more attentive service, this might not be the spot. Also, some tables weren’t completely clean when we arrived, which detracted a bit from the overall experience.
Atmosphere (3/5): The atmosphere was typical of a small, casual Latin restaurant. There was a big-screen TV playing Latin music, which gave the place a lively vibe. However, the cleanliness of both the dining area and the bathrooms left something to be desired. The restaurant had a homey feel, but these small details took away from the experience.
Mango Latino Grill is a solid choice if you’re craving traditional Venezuelan food, but there are areas for improvement, especially in terms of pricing, service, and cleanliness. While I enjoyed the food overall, it didn’t quite hit the mark for a...
Read moreWe found this place based on a FB ad with a coupon. Didn't look at a street view and glad we didn't. It really doesn't look like much from the outside, and its neighbors don't help. It's not a great area, but the parking lot was visible from our table, so no worries.
Health inspection near the door was a 100 score. Everything was clean and orderly. The menu was a two sided laminate, akin to a WaHo, and had both lunch and dinner options. We got areas, and steak with chiccarone, sausage plantains, beans, rice, avocado, and a fried egg. Also, we added some blood sausage to each plate for a couple bucks more.
Everything was tasty, and portions were GENEROUS. We both brought home enough for a.second meal. Our server was very nice, and handled any questions or requests we had, even bringing us some bonus samples of items. Literally, the only thing I can think of that wasn't absolutely great was my egg yolk was more cooked than I typically like. I strongly recommend giving this place a try. All the other Mango Latino Grill locations in the area are separate entities, so I can't speak to the quality or experience there, but THIS LOCATION is great. Fun times and full...
Read moreSeeing the ridiculously good review is both funny, and just a little suspicious. It's not that I don't think this place is a 5 star experience, just that I never imagined the volume of reviews they have received was ever realistically possible. That all said, they do deserve the positive feedback. The food is excellent. Anyone who says it isn't wouldn't know how to pour water out of a boot with the instructions written on the heel. That said I do understand the complaints about how long it can take to receive an order, I work next door with a lot of people who feel the same way as we only get about 30 minutes to get food, and eat it. 20 minutes to get the food can be pretty awful, but that's not really the restaurant's fault. Last, the price. Yeah. It's expensive, in my opinion. Still super delicious though, and what do I know, I'm just...
