Review of Old City Prime
As I reflect on my recent experience at Old City Prime, I genuinely wish to award it a five-star rating. However, I must be honest with myself and acknowledge some shortcomings that I encountered during my visit. This restaurant is a much-needed addition to Lima's dining scene, offering an inviting atmosphere, yet the food does not quite align with its price point.
While the culinary offerings are commendable for Lima, they face little competition. On our last visit, I ordered the Maryland-style hot crab dip, which was disappointingly reminiscent of cream cheese soup with a hint of crab flavor, rather than the robust dish promised. Additionally, instead of the anticipated toast points, we were presented with an assortment of crackers, which did not complement the dish as one might hope.
The steaks, while well-cooked, were unfortunately on the dry side, and the potatoes, though satisfactory, did not justify the cost. A simple enhancement, such as whipping the mash and a topping of chives, would greatly elevate this steakhouse side. The dessert, a pecan cheesecake, was also a let down, tasting rather mass-produced.
One aspect that I found somewhat unrefined for an establishment with such a strong reputation was the inclusion of corn casserole as one of the "premium" sides. While it is indeed a delightful Thanksgiving accompaniment, I would have appreciated a more creative name to enhance its appeal within the menu for such a price.
Overall, my meal was adequate, showcasing some flavor but ultimately falling short of expectations, especially at nearly $200 for dinner and drinks for two. I recognize that every restaurant can have an off night, and I am willing to give Old City Prime another chance. Read moreThis restaurant will check all of your foodie boxes. Classy, warm and classic atmosphere with tall ceilings, appropriate mood lighting and comfortable seating. Food: pretty sure I have only touched the tip of this steak iceberg. I had the aged bone in cowboy steak. Amazing. Cooked perfectly as you would suspect and seasoned to perfection. A range of 5 or 7 optional seasonings from a butter to hollandaise type sauce. I am looking forward to trying each of them. Our table ordered a wide range of other entrees. Prime rib, filet mignon, ribeye and a seasonal pumpkin ravioli. All, bar none, were great. Portions were on par and the sides were a nice added touch. That baked potato will tip your table. Some great choices allowing you to tweak your food pairings adding to the win. I also tried the deviled eggs OC STYLE. 6 Avocado, sriracha and candied bacon topped eggs. Drinks. Skilled martinis and many other mixed drinks. Desserts. So I would consider starting with desserts next time. They were that good. Freshly made donuts perfect with an after dinner coffee or croissant bread pudding for a eating adventure closer. Service. 2 words. SCOTT BLAND. Waiter may not cover it all. Very knowledgeable of food and the wine list, attentive but not hovering and charismatic. Side note: Scott has an amazing voice and you may get serenaded if you are in for a special event. In closing this is worth your time. Prices are fair for what is being presented. Aged beef is only served is less then 3% of all restaurants....
Read moreScheduled reservations and looked to have a great night until I was seated and it took the waitress 30 mins to get our drinks out. It was at this time she came to start taking our orders and acknowledged we have an appt upstairs for the dueling pianists. When the food arrived, my order was incorrect as I ordered the Beef sirloin brisket and was brought Top sirloin.... I informed the waitress of the incorrect order, she offered to have the kitchen remake the meal. I had to remind her we were already supposed to be upstairs by the time the food arrived, and I did not want our group to be delayed another 25 mins to wait for the mix up by the waitress. The bill was brought out and she had billed me for the top sirloin, and I asked her to charge me for the order I had placed. She resorted to be short with me about even asking for that, and would have the manager make the decision. This is where it became unprofessional... The manager wanted to state since I ate the meal that was brought out he would not adjust the bill to make up for the mixup. This was literally a $5 difference, and the manager told me "He would not change the bill". This type of problems are easily fixed from restaurants that don't even cost 1/10th the amount, but yet this place does not care to take care of the customer. Needless to say, I don't think its worth the bad publicity over $5.00. I will not recommend people spend their nights out nor their time at this restaurant until corrections are made for...
